Been doing some reading on the Classic Petra Blog and according to Michael, it sounds like the following dates are expected to apply for upcoming releases.

The second classics album should start recording end of January and be released for download around April 2.

The DVD should be available from the website around the middle of Feb. and be officially released at the end of Feb. TBN should air it around the end of Jan. or 1st part of Feb.

Recording for the all new album should be around April 2 and be released for download around Sept. 1.

In the comments thread on a recent post, Michael said they ran out of signed inserts for the first pressing and will be getting more for future runs. Either the interest is already exceeding expectations - or the expectations were real low.

Can't wait for the new records!

Well, I think he had said before that they had about 1000 and I think they sold those out at the show. I just recently ordered my CD copy of the album and my order number was 3100 something. So if that's an actual count, then they've sold at least that many besides the ones they sold at the show. No telling how many downloads they sold, so who knows. Either way, by the sound of things from Michael, it would seem that sales are going better than they expected.

I have no idea, but hey, we're getting three albums from Petra in only about a year. It's hard to complain.

Maybe longer production time since it's all new material, and they want it to be a masterpiece concept album.

Did they say it was going to be a concept album?

3 Petra Albums in 1 year. Definitely these days are good times for Petra... and for us.

I don't think so. Not that I have heard anyway. Perhaps just some wishful thinking.

A band can certainly overexpose itself. I really like Petra and am thrilled at what they are doing, but they may be doing too much too soon, especially in these trying enonomic times. The release date for the second reunion CD seems a bit soon to me, considering the DVD will come out until the end of February. This is just one guy's opinion. Peace and goodwill.

Drum, though I completely understand your concern, this could be the best approach for them. Right now they are selling everything direct (CD and download) making profit margins high. Even though times are tough, people are still spending billions on entertainment. If they have the two CD's and the DVD available when they start touring most of the crowd (small though they may be) will likely buy them all.

Granted, I don't really have a handle on what it is costing them to produce these CD's. Anyone have any idea?

Well, I doubt John L. is charging an "unreasonable" rate for the recording! But I don't know what mastering/production is costing them. Brent?

Well, since Classic Petra is owned by all five members, he may not be charging anything. Just part of his role in the business.
