2nd Petra record?

Post by Timbo » Fri Apr 15, 2011 7:35 am

I have been gone a while. Had a lot going on. My dad past away a month ago of cancer. I think the last time I was here I ticked a lot of people off when the whole "which Petra is better" thing was going on. Which I'm sorry. Since then I have changed my opinion about classic Petra. I do enjoy most of the songs. I was wondering when the 2nd album is coming out. I'm sure it has already bean talked about to death, but havn't had a lot of time to check in in the last 4 months.

I don't think it's fair to say there is zero interest in a tour, we don't have information that points to that. The only thing that's really been put out there is that probably when they were trying to book a US tour, they were asking too much and therefore, it didn't go very far. However, they do have quite a few dates oversees and at least a couple over hear, so it's not like they are not doing anything. There also seems to be reasons to believe that the first album has done reasonably well or least better than their expectations. Just those two things alone gives me every reason to believe they will continue on. I know it's very easy for us here to get impatient when things get delayed or pushed back, which they often have with this project, but negative speculation only breeds discontentment and divisions and I don't see any reason for that. Let us be patient and wait for solid news.

Once again the zone slams anyone who dares to question CP. The only posts allowed here must pertain to sunshine, lollipops & rainbows. Everything is wonderful, my bad.

WHAT slam?? Every post you make about Classic Petra is ALWAYS in a negative way. I'm sure you are one that thinks anything pre John has nothing to do with Petra, only after '86 was there really a Petra, and everything else before him was just for nothing.

Didn't mean to start this again. If this is the rendition we have, I just hope they re-record some more of the classics. I hope the do It is finished and replace the computer techno whatever is going on in that song with some more guitar.

They will make more music if they sell this one and if they sell shows. They just can't afford to invest time and money into it if nobody pays. That is the best way to look at it. They can sell shows over seas. The US Christian market is not as easy to crack. Christian audiences have less money to spend than their secular counterparts. You will never see an arena floor of a Christian concert selling out at 330 bucks a seat and 125 for nose bleeders. The end is here for single Christian artists/bands selling out large arenas and halls. Concert packages are where it's at. What will be hard for CP is finding someplace to fit in, because there just isn't anyone else like them with their history willing to tour right now. They are only doing one-offs at Cornerstone, etc. Don't blame CP. Blame the economy, the high cost of advertising/marketing, etc, etc.

What I said wasn't meant as a slam. It was just a statement from experience. I was trying to be encouraging. I guess I failed.

I think CP just needs to find the right venues...and perhaps realize they are no longer an arena act! I love going to smaller venues that are often cheaper than arenas, and much more intimate. The Birchmere in the Wash DC area is a favorite of mine...not a bad seat in the house and I'm often just a few feet from stage. I've seen Eric Johnson, Bruce Cockburn and The Rippingtons there to name a few. Tickets usually $30-40. And they serve dinner and drinks during the show...what more can you ask for? I'd love to see CP there.

Sweet Comfort Band apparently may still be working on their new album and a tour, last I heard they were including Kevin's sons to play extra guitar and bass. If they could tour together, that might be a tour to see right there. Plus if Steve Green, Wayne Watson and Twila Paris can do a succesful Contemporary Classics Tour, I'm sure Petra and another artist could launch a succseful Christian Rock Tour.

hmm, a classic tour would wet my whistle. I'd like to see Petra with Whitecross and Eddie Degarmo. From what I've seen on youtube Ken Tamplin sounds pretty good live and I always enjoyed his music too.
