Best Greg Volz Solo Songs

Post by Disciple » Sun Oct 23, 2011 9:17 pm

I just got John Schlitt's The Grafting and while it's mellow I really love it.

What are the top Greg Volz solo songs? All I have so far is Hold Onto The Fire.

Gracias.

There was a really good song on the River Rising, the main song.. haven't heard it in 15 years so I don't know the title.

One of my personal favorites is Take Me to The End.

"Pethead" is not a title. It's a way of life.

Livin' For The Bell
Dream On (Aerosmith cover)

I got tired of The River Is Rising because we played the snot out of it back in my radio daze. It was in the rotation and charting high. Some people would call in and ask for the name of the Petra album :). When BTTS rolled out, we got fewer requests for those songs than Gregs.

"Feelings" is quite funny:

It's also an old e-band song. At least the text.

Barrier, Joyous Grave and Livin' for the Bell from the first album are all quite good. Still Waters is also pretty good, but goes on too long. Overall, I would say this is the album that sounds the most like Petra.

I Come Out Fighting, Dream On, Back Burner, Will You Take Me Back and Up to the Mountain from the second album are also favorites.

Walk Toward the Light and Frontline from the third

What Then, Marching On, The Exodus, On Bended Knee and Standin' from the forth

In God's Presence From Break Out Praise

God Only Knows, The Rock and Soldier of Light are pretty good from God Only Knows, though not quite as good as earlier stuff.

There are several of his worship oriented indi albums that I don't have, so I can't speak to those.

When they released Still Waters to the radio, they didn't release the album version, but a shorter edited version of 3:45.

There's an e recording of this song on the latest E Files CD and it's quite similar. Only the crazy bits aren't there.

My favourite would probably be What Then? This is one of those e songs where I might actually prefer Greg's version. But I must admit that I like the e versions of the other songs much better.

Off hand I would have to say "I come out fighting" it has a grate 80s vibe. The No room in the middle project is really good too.

I've always loved "Come To Me" from The Exodus. Great song!

There were a few songs on The River is Rising that are pretty cool, but after that I lost interest because Greg gravitated more towards the pop/light rock realm which is a huge turn off for me. I tend to believe most artists do that just to get more radio play. His version of Dream On was really poor and the song lost all its vibe and luster.

Wow. Couldn't disagree more.

That's a classic that should never be remade by anyone and I mean anyone.

Greg is singing some unbelievably high notes in that song.
