I'm pretty sure the version of "Killing My Old Man" on Never Say Day is the recording that was cut from Come And Join Us. Or was the song cut before it was recorded? I don't remember.

I'm a 100% sure that it is a different recording. They had recorded the song and they made several test pressings at the record plant. Only then did Paul Baker (record executive) decide to remove it from the album, because people might misunderstand the message. Also the band's suggestion of replacing it with a live version with spoken introduction was rejected. These test pressings are still out there (how many? 5-10 and probably even less, maybe more like 3-6) and this guy at Facebook has one. I'm trying to get him to sell it to me, but it doesn't seem to be working.
This is the only unreleased song from the Petra vault. I don't think the master tapes are still there. Word has had plenty of chances to include this song on all the different Come And Join Us re-releases. So I think this test pressing might actually be the only source for this lost recording.

Fascinating. I'd love to hear it. I assume Greg sings it (not a given on CAJU)? I wonder how much the music sounds like the smooth early-'80s pop rock of NSD versus the rawer sound of '70s-style classic rock on CAJU. Would the tempo be different, I wonder? Pieter, surely you can at least get the guy to rip the song and send you the file, right?

The guy seems to have it in storage, but he doesn't know exactly where. I've asked him to send him some pictures and he said he would. He described it as a 'more rustic' version, but that doesn't help a lot. I'll work all my powers of persuasion to unearth this gem. I got you to have an album signed for me, so my persuasion skills are fine.

Seems he could at least rip that particular track as an MP3, but of course, that would eliminate his biggest selling point.

He could at least rip like a 30 second clip, just to prove he has it.

My first rock concert I went to was in 1980 in Orange, Tx and it was Petra, and they played Killing My Old Man and when they released NSD, the version on there was vastly different from what they played at the show in 1980, so in between albums it had been reworked.

If I remember correctly it was a can good benefit show and it was at the old West Orange-Stark HS gym. I'm pretty sure they no longer use the building it was ancient then and I believe was some type of catholic prep school from the turn of the century and the school district bought it sometime in the 70's and refurbished it.
Being only 10 at the time I thought the show was great; it was Louie's first show with the band and it was loud and raw. They played KMOM & Angel of Light off of NSD, but everything else was from the first 3 albums. The one thing about the show I will never forget was the sound was so loud that paint particles were falling from the ceiling and the gym was literally shaking. I believe it to be the loudest concert I've ever have attended.
