I just realized that the Zone (in it's present form) just celebrated its 10th anniversary...!
How do I know? Because I looked at my avatar area, that said:

I was one of the first ones to migrate to this board, so yeah - here's a cake for you!

What no one saw coming was farewell, classic Petra, II Guys, John's solo career .....
I believe the release date for JAH was in late July, because I remember driving to Tennessee in August 2003 on vacation and I drove my wife crazy because I wouldn't stop playing the CD; It had just been released about 2 weeks prior.
Who started the zone? Before the zone, I got my info from Petra Rocks My World!

I don't even remember a before-the-zone. I found the original forum in 1998, when I was looking for some concert info. I was only lurking at the time. We moved to some other place and then because of some trouble with ownership/fees the whole thing was moved to here. We don't have a lot of the original people left. I'm sure Sue was there and maybe a couple of others. They might be able to give some more details about the original CCM-boards and the subsequent moves.

so there was thepetrazone.com and I guess something happened there? and there was petrafanclub.com before this site from what I remember? I used to be on Petrarocksmyworld before this, then it had a heap of spam or something.

I remember petrafanclub.com... wow... that was ages ago! That one never really went anywhere. It was sort of a chat board, but more of a website in the early days. It was started by a 'friend' of John's who ended up taking johnschlitt.com for himself - which is why we now have the 'w' in johnwschlitt.com.
ANYWAYS...
The Zone started before Petra Rocks My World chat board. The Zone was originally on a chat board called EZ Board - I remember the guy who started it, but can't remember his name. He lived up in Alaska.
It then was hosted on CCMusic.org after the EZ Board had issues that no one liked. That same guy registered the name thepetrazone.com while it was on CCMusic.org but let it lapse and the domain name was lost - and he disappeared. Josh was somewhat involved at this point - but I'm not exactly sure what he did.
That's when we all decided that a 'place of our own' was in order. A vote was taken, a name chosen, I registered it and bought it. A a guy by the name of Micah volunteered to host The Zone on his server to get away from the mass-boards at the time.
Time went by, he got busy, and Daniel stepped in and is currently hosting it.
And that's how I remember it... correct me if I'm wrong...

That's about what I remember too. I came in at the very end of life on ThePetraZone.com and then joined up here after the move to .net
We also chatted over on the Petra section of inpop's message board when Petra was actively an artist for them.
I started Petra Parody over on the inpop board and then moved it here to the zone finally.
Since then
I've been in war with my friend and arch rival Enosh and his alter ego Fakersfieldpethead
Launched a Political campaign with Enosh over who was the next Bakersfieldpethead
As well as countless stories and jokes.
But I am revealing this one answer that no one has even thought about. This has been the topic for days on end and no one has really ever answered the question nor has anyone ----nay I say no one has slept with this question burning at the very tip of everyone's mind
