As you know, I am normally against Petra's former labels releasing schlocky "greatest hits" collections, but I have to admit...I'll probably buy this one.
A good selection of songs from:
* PETRA PRAISE: THE ROCK CRIES OUT
* BEYOND BELIEF
* UNSEEN POWER
* WAKE-UP CALL
* NO DOUBT
* PETRA PRAISE 2
Don't know why they would throw "God Gave Rock & Roll To You" from COME AND JOIN US on there.
Now, if they had included "St. Augustine's Pears" from GOD FIXATION...it would be a near perfect "greatest hits".

This is again a totally out-of-place cover. The cover features a photograph of the band from the God Fixation album cover: John, Louie, Lonnie, Pete and Kevin. And there isn't even one song of off God Fixation on the album...
Check the link in my first post to see the cover.

They should have used the photo on the back of the wake-up call video collection with Petra in a field.
The was the best line up and a great picture that hasn't been over used like so many others!

Yeah, I just got my email from MusiChristian.com today about this!
It was a good selection of songs, but it should have been around 12 to 14 songs, But it is only $7.77.

It's a pretty good song selection, but I probably won't get it; I already have all those songs on the CDs they were taken from. Yeah, the picture is all wrong.
The best "best of" collections are War and Rememberance and Petraphonics. Other than that, they're not that big a deal.

Actually, this one is being released by Word Records. So it looks like they're taking over Star Song's policy. This is already the 3rd best-of since Petra left Word Records.

Someone should take the thesaurus away from Star Song.
Enough is enough.
Enough said there Matthew.
I'd say that the best release for PETRA is the complete PETRA anthology. (A box set with ALL of PETRA's albums).

Hey Guys
The Collection is part of a series of CDs that Word/WB has put out to pay respect to the pioneers of our music. Guardian - The Definitive Collection also came out the same day. The Imperials and other artists came out earlier this year around January. There is more to come. You can check it all out at

Just bought his CD on Friday. A few thoughts...
I agree with p-freak. Using a washed-out photo as the album cover art is pretty underwhelming, especially since not one song is included from GOD FIXATION. Take off "God Gave Rock And Roll To You" (what the heck was Word thinking?) and substitute "St. Augustine's Pears" or "If I Had To Die For Someone" instead.
Great 3-song sequence to open the album..."I Love The Lord", "Dance", and "Beyond Belief". It's good to see that John Schlitt will get some songwriting royalties with the inclusion of "Just Reach Out", and props for including the underrated "We Need Jesus". You can't beat the price, either...$7.97 at Wellspring in Dead Moines.
Now, I await with baited breath for PETRA'S GREATEST HITS...THE INPOP YEARS.

The songs are more or less well selected.
The cover su***. It seems like they have search for "petra" on google and took the first best picture. It's just sad...

Here is a list of the other "definitive collections"
B. J. Thomas
Cindy Morgan
David Meece - All but one song off two albums. One of those albums can be purchased from his web site. They really need to release two songs off of his "Seven" album.
First Call
Greg Long
Guardian
Imperials - Mostly stuff from the Russ Taff era with three songs thrown in. Pretty decent selection but very similar to a previous Imperials greatest hits. Plus I believe most of their albums can be picked up from their web site.
Kim Boyce
Leon Patillo - Songs can be gotten from CD's sold on his web site.
Leslie Phillips
Mylon LeFevre - Almost all the songs are off the same 2 albums and I believe the actual albums can be picked up from his web site as well.
Petra The Definitive Collection - Everyone said w
Randy Stonehill - Two from "Celebrate this heartbeat" that may have never made it to CD. He has two albums that never made CD "CTH" and "Equator". A mixed collection, but then Randy is kinda mixed up himself.
Sandi Patty
Steve Camp - quite a few songs from his pre "Fire and Ice" days so may be worth it if you like his pre F&I stuff.
Wayne Watson - Too lazy to look at.
