I am so thrilled that they will do an album of original material, I can't wait!

Thank you CPRSOURCE for the great update, serves to confirm what John Lawry told me in Lakeland and what Greg said in his recent radio interview. Are you by any chance in an official capacity with CPR?

Anyway, welcome to The Petra Zone.

Sometimes I wonder if Greg X had stayed with Petra how far they could have gone? My thoughts are that the timing of him leaving might have been in the best interest of the band moving into the late 80's early 90's. Greg's solo stuff was clearly how he envisioned the musical path, and it didn't really work in the market as well as it could have.
Right on. It was time for a change on multiple levels. They got what they needed with John, John and Dino. Although, I hated the first record at first. I thought they were done.

Knowing JDBs ego, I think JDB thought Petra couldn't live without him and GXV probably believed that to be true too. My money is on JDB thinking GXV would take the Petra audience with him.

The style of the music was likely as much JDB's influence as GXVs. To me, it is a continuance of BTS.
He wasn't the only one who thought that. I know there were a lot of people at the time who thought Volz leaving meant the band was finished.

Excited for original music. They're talented musicians, but let's face it, without Bob, they're not Petra. I didn't care for their "re-imaginings" of Petra songs, and doing something new will allow them to really shine.

New material awesome. I think they should change the name of the band to Volz, I think it would be more marketable.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the band should be called Cephas. Next album title: Cephas Also Means Rock

Do anyone know when it will be released? Or who will write the music? It's exiting.

I would like to hear new CPR material...but from Bob or Greg or both...?....a great example of an older band putting out a killer new release is 2018's Smalltown Poets CD "Say Hello"......it is utterly fantastic!...from a band that was biggest in the mid-90's....great lyrics, great musicianship! (plug officially ended)

I wonder if Bob has some songs kicking around that he could give them?

Yes, what about that one or two unreleased songs from J&H? Surely Bob might have a few songs, or at least I hope.

Pretty sure someone asked Bob this once and that he said they pretty much can everything if they don't use it but I guess you never know.

I think the question was whether or not Petra had an archive of finished but unreleased songs, and Bob's response was something to the effect that the most he has in the "vault" are a handful of rough demos that are not suitable for public release, and that everything that is recorded and mixed in the studio goes on an album, because Petra has never been in the financial position where they can afford to spend the resources to finish a song without releasing it. They're not like U2 or some other highly successful band where they'll record two dozen songs and then pick their top 10 for an album.

If/when it ever comes to fruition, what kind of material (songs, style, vocals, riffs, etc.) would you like to hear on it? And what should the album cover look like? I'm hoping to provide some unsolicited input to the band.
Something vaguely like Back to the Rock, except without the remakes of course. Moderate to heavily distorted guitars, and riffs supported by keyboards. Maybe a ballad or two also. It should be written like classic rock but with more distortion than they used to use, at least as much as in MPTY, and should sound less 80's. Hopefully more guitar solos... though they don't have Bob. No autotune please. Definitely must not be pop-rock.

Unfortunately, you are likely going to get something very 80s pop rock, with more laid back tunes and only a few rockers.
