First album. You'll understand the wink when you hear him. God bless him.
First two albums, actually. Greg Hough was the other primary vocalist, and he sounds a lot like John Fogerty. The third album was a tag team of Greg Volz and Rob Fraizer. Next four albums it was Greg Volz, and then John Schlitt after that.

And sorry, Diehardpetrafan, but I can't pick a favorite. 8)

Also, I don't think Bob Hartman is a bad singer. He's just not lead singer material.
Did Greg sing at all in Come and Join Us, or did he start singing with Washes Whiter Than?
He sang on a couple of songs, I think. He shows up at least during the drum solo on "Woman Don't You Know" around the 2:30 mark where he delivers an earsplitting wail. I don't think he sang the rest of the song because it's not his typical style. He delivers several more of his trademark wails during the reprise of "God Gave Rock And Roll To You" that closes out the album. According to Wikipedia, he's only credited as a guest vocalist. I don't have the physical album so I can't look at the liner notes.

Check here for a breakdown of who sings lead on which song:

Ah, well, according to that, it is him singing the whole of "Woman Don't You Know" and also the opening track "God Gave Rock And Roll To You". I'm guessing he was still maturing as a singer and developing his own style because it barely sounds like him except for brief moments!

To me, Greg sounds better on some of the early albums compared to later on. I would probably count the material on Never Say Die as some of his strongest performances. It’s too hard to vote for a favorite vocalist. I like both Greg and John, and I feel they each brought something unique to the band during their respective eras.

I think Volz was at the top of his game during the Beat The System tour and his first few solo albums. He still sounds pretty good today, but he absolutely killed it in the mid- to late-80s. I still consider his cover of "Dream On" to be the definitive version.

I like 'Still Waters' & Beat the System but I think his voice will never be my most favorite.

Like, he totally would've ruined REO Speedwagon imo, he's best on his own or on More Power To Ya/Beat The System

Oh right, the Speedwagon thing. I'm not actually sure he was ever invited to sing for them once, he may have just auditioned for it, I know there was a discussion on precisely what happened with that on here once. Either way he's a great singer. Many good singers never get famous while mediocre ones do so there's no need to validate his talent by what bands he's been invited into (Nothing wrong with Bob Dylan, great lyricist, and his vocals suited his style, yet no one would say he's a great singer. Same thing goes for Neil Young, J Cash, Cobain, Billie Eilish, while many talented people go undiscovered completely) :)

Billie Eilish makes my ears bleed and my nerves tense. I don't know how anyone can stand her. 🤮

Yes, I always thought I heard Bob on Come and Join Us, but was misled. Serves me right for not looking into it more. By the way, the way you quoted me and responded to me, it seems like you didn't read my entire post.

Thanks for the links! That was very informative!
