Zoom concert

Post by fcollazo » Tue May 12, 2020 9:23 am

Now would be an appropriate time and easier to achieve a Dream Team Zoom concert. No travel or expense involved. Many bands like Sammy Hagar's. and Sheryl Crow's are doing it and they sound amazing. Can we start a petition?

Personally I'd love an online concert

It sounds easy. Technically it's not. Those things you are seeing on Zoom and Youtube are not live events. They are pre-produced. The same was true for the thing lady Ga Ga did on TV. All of that was pre-recorded. She was singing into the backside of the Neumann mic, which rejects sound and yields a sound with no mids or highs. Sammy and the guys did theirs over a period of two weeks. The guys sent around the clips to each other so they could add their parts, then it was all put together. The internet itself adds about 2 seconds of latency with an audio/video transmission. Zoom is not designed for real-time, full-duplex (delay-free, bi-directional where all participants can send and receive content at the same time).

They wouldn't do it for the same reasons they don't want to do a one-off reunion show. TIME to rehearse. They all have lives, schedules, other irons in the fire so they can survive. Putting it all on hold for a few weeks is not likely. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. They wouldn't do it when they were offered good money.

I went once a couple a years ago to a church that was meeting in a mall in Connecticut at the worship service was done simultaneously with another church campus and we were worshiping in real time while the band at the other church was on our screen live. We were interacting with the worship leaders in real time between songs too.

Our church campuses do that as well in a pinch. There are TV church campuses doing it. This is one aspect of what I do for my business. Churches have encoders and decoders at the campuses, communicating on a church network. This is not the same thing as using Zoom or any other internet conferencing app. There is still latency with the church situation, but it is much less.
