Of course it's the "preferred" way, but I wanted to send him a letter, that would be more fun. It's fine, I didn't actually think I would be able to anyway though, just asked in case.

It's a privacy issue and I would rather guess that any of us here doesn't even have his home mailing address. Email him and either see if he is willing to issue that to you or give you the P.O. box for his studio.
