In 1989 Petra completely upended the Christian music scene by recording a rock album of praise and worship standards. It became their most widely distributed album, and launched them into a whole new level as a creative ministry. In 1997, they decided it was time to show the young people how it was done...again! How was it received? Well, the Petraspective can only really tell you what we thought about it. Press play for a bit of a salty take on everyone's favourite Christian Rock band.

Hey y'all Petheads! The Petraspective returns once more to wrestle with Petra's last album of The 90's. Is it an underrated gem? Is it an overrated misfire? Could it somehow be both!?!? The only way you'll know is to Press Play!

FINALLY! The episode that the universe didn't want you to hear! Dave and Lindsay talk the TRUTH about Petra...and cover bands! We were interrupted by storms, power failures, technical problems and work schedules...but we have persevered and now present to you the deepest we've ever dived into our favourite band. This episode doesn't just deal with Petra's tumultuous late 90's, but also the legacy of the band in the field of Contemporary Christian Music. We hope you'll forgive us the delay, and enjoy this special bonus episode where we discuss Petra's cover album of their own songs - Double Take - and the so-called tribute album by Star Song Records - Never Say Dinosaur!

That's it! We finally did it! The brothers from down under bring the Petraspective to a landing on the final 'official' Petra project (at the time at least). When they said "We're putting the band back together" who dreamed it would ever rock this hard? Press play and pour one out for the 1985 team.

Here are some thoughts about the podcast where the guys are talking about the song selection for the second CPR album.

Greg and Louie are not rockers. They are closer to AC/pop. Louie's biggest influences are not rock drummers. They are session players and pop drummers. Listen to all of Volz's solo work. It's very keyboard-driven, and John had a hand in some of it. I consider CPR a GXV band with some Petra musicians.

I think we see who brought what as the Petra factions play live. Greg has the pop-rock version that can't play the harder rock stuff. John and Bob have the rock version that CAN play anything from the old pop/rock catalog.

Louie told me that he wouldn't have played J&H because he didn't like it and didn't think it was Petra. Greg told me that none of the albums after him were Petra. It was something else. He didn't think much of those albums. Now, it could be said that he and Louie might have said that because they were out of the band. But, having recorded both of them and given them complete creative input, I have to agree that they were not a fan of the hard rock stuff because I was feeding them both guitars and songs harder than Petra's work to that point, and Louie was giving me Toto. I asked Greg for another stab at it, and he obliged me. Both were great to work with and concerned that I got what I wanted. We dialed back the songs and tones to accommodate and then created a completely new piece for Greg.
