I have a question...

I was interested in writing a review on Washes Whiter Than soon. I am quite certain that Rob Frazier sang all four songs he contributed to this album. Is that correct? Does anyone know? I am pretty certain because on the songs he wrote it does sound like him.

Thanks for any help.

I bet if you asked Michael Jones or Josh Renauld, one of them would know. These guys are Petra gurus.

Here are their sites:

I have the original Washes Whiter Than LP. Unfortunately, the information contained on the cover and inner sleeve isn't very specific. Rob Frasier and Greg X Volz are both named as vocalists with no other details of who sang what.

Washes Whiter Than is a CD I can't stop listening to when I pop it into my CD player. This is an awesome softer side of Petra.

You don't really have to go to our sites... I'm right here, and Josh is usually lurking around somewhere, too!

To be honest, I'm not positive who sang what, although it's not too hard to tell them apart if you know what you're listening for. Then again, Greg and Rob both have their own Web sites and you probably could email them personally and ask. :)

Thanks for the tip. I e-mailed Rob. I will let you know when I find out an answer. I am pretty confident that it is Rob on the songs he wrote but I just want to be sure.

Well, I e-mail Rob Frazier some time ago and never got a reply so today I e-mail Bob Hartman and he replied in just a few hours. Very efficient I must say.... anyway, he said he thought Rob sang all the songs he wrote for Washes Whiter Than. So, for the small remnant who actually listens to Whases Whiter Than you can enjoy the fact you know who actually sang on 40% of the album.

I always thought it was pretty easy to hear. But then again, I do have several of Rob's solo albums, so I know his voice for sure. Frazier did sing on other songs than his own contributions. Here's what I think about lead vocals:

1. I'm thankful, Frazier on the verses and Volz on the bridge
2. Why should the Father bother? Frazier
3. Morning star, Frazier
4. Magic mirror, Volz
5. Mary's song, Frazier
6. Yahweh love, Volz and Frazier
7. Without You, Frazier
8. Taste and see, Volz
9. Magic words, Frazier
10. Deep love, Frazier

Frazier own contributions are the songs 3, 5, 7 and 9. As you can hear he also did some lead vocals on 1, 2, 6 and 10. Only 4 and 8 are entirely Volz.

Wow

Man, I feel like an idiot. I always assumed it was Volz doing the lead on all the songs. Although upon inspecting the CD liner notes, there are no "vocals by" credits, so i feel a little better. Still, that's something else. I never had any indication from listening to the songs that it was Volz doing the singing.

That is great information. I have to say, though, Volz and Frazier sound an awful lot alike. There are some songs I can distinguish while others it seems to me are a toss-up, as far as who's singing what.

Thanks, P-freak for sharing that bit of information.

What P-Freak said sounds right but let me tell you what I asked Bob Hartman. I asked him if Frazier sang the songs Frazier wrote and Greg sang the songs Bob wrote. His response was that he thought that was right. It is kind of irritating (sp?) to not know. Maybe someone could e-mail Greg Volz and ask him what the deal is. But Bob seemed to think Frazier just sang the songs he wrote.

Well, Bob is right about Frazier singing his own songs...
And I'm not surprised about uncle Bob's reply. I mean, the guy plays the music and probably doesn't listen to it as much as we do. And Washes whiter than is already 25 years old. It might not be the first thing he thinks about when he is thinking about Petra
