Metallica just put a new single up on iTunes: "The Judas Kiss". It's not a Petra cover.

NO, this is certainly not a cover of Judas Kiss, but when I got the CD, I did joke with my wife that this possibly proves Metallica listens to Petra!?

Yea, you never know. They seem to at least be familiar with the Biblical reference.

Or because Christianity is the unofficial religion of the US and is built into the very foundations of the country, non-Christians are familiar with Biblical references. Scripture is used in "The Jungle Book"; Dave Matthews Band has several songs that reference scripture. That just means that they are aware of what the Bible contains, it doesn't mean they are Satanic or Satan is using them. Christianity is historical too, and many Christian beliefs are held by other religions and even non-religious people.

That's a bit of a jump - to think that was what I was saying. Let's see what happens if we apply that same logic elsewhere...

So, are we to believe that James was implying that his readers were servants of satan, or being used by him? Of course not. To read that implication into James' writing would be completely opposed to what James was actually saying.

All James was saying was that, "Since the demons believe, you shouldn't think it special that you do to." All I was saying was, "Since satan knows the scriptures, don't think it special that Metallica, or any other band, does too."

Your original response didn't add anything to the conversation and the way you wrote it implied that you think that Metallica and Satan are in league.

Did it? Or was that just the way you read it? Often, the implications a reader sees in another person's writing says more about the reader than about the writer.

Speaking of "Judas Kiss" covers and non-covers ....

I recently learned that "One Bad Pig" did, in fact, do a cover of Petra's "Judas Kiss". I haven't personally heard it though. Has anyone else?

I have a live mp3 version somewhere that One Bad Pig did and it really sucked. You don't want to hear it. I thought I did ... I actually liked One Bad Pig's cassette I used to have but not that remake at all ...

Yeah, sometimes "live" can be really disappointing. There's a reason they build studios. I had a White Heart "Live" casset once. Listened to it once.

I thought their version of Judas Kiss was pretty smokin'. I first heard it on Starsong's Extremely Loud Guitar Disc, but I think its on one of their regular albums.

Glass Harp at Carnegie is my favorite live album. At least today.
