"Witch Hunt" is kind of a weird song.

It's on Beat The System. It's actually a pretty cool song. A great Petra hit that just made you laugh.

Yeah, it's from Beat the System (1984).

It was the first Christian song I ever heard that used a lot of sampling, though at least some of the samples seemed to be homemade in the studio. Great tune, clever lyrics, a little bit soft poppy for my taste, but then most of album is that way.

Killing My Old Man from Never Say Die

Good song, but the very first time I heard it I was not sure what I was listening to. Check it out if you've never heard it.

"Lucas McGraw," especially at the end when they shoot the pig.

Woman Don't You Know: Cool song, and a bit strange... some kind of a drum solo in the middle part of the song, with the Star Wars (?) effects :)

Coloring Song: Good song and one really Petra classic one. But compare it with other Petra rock songs like Mine Field, Last Daze, Test of Time etc.. The Coloring Song sounds like a Sunday school song, more than a radio hit from one of the greatest Christian Rock band through history

Witch Hunt, Lucas Mcgraw
Friends (All In The Family Of God), Hand Of My Heart :?

The Coloring Song was different, but Petra played a different style at the time. They were more of a contemporary adult band than a rock band.

You're all forgetting the wierdest song they ever did, far and away. Computer Brains. C'mon, when Greg's freaking out with the BREAK OUT's!! That song used to give me nightmares when I was a kid.

I'm not ashamed to say "what were they thinking?"

Post by yamasaaaki har har » Mon Oct 06, 2008 7:17 pm

I think the weirdest (and most obnoxious) song ending is I'm Not Ashamed from their first album, when they take the guitar solo and speed it way up and slow it down distorted. Makes my ears hurt listening to it.

I was also thinking of that one, my pseudo-japanese friend. The band was always willing to experiment.
