Yeah it's that time again. My employer (Rackspace Hosting) bought Slicehost, and is giving us employees awesome discounts on Slicehost slices. So, I'll be moving all my stuff from the dedicated server where it is now to the new Slicehost installation in the Rackspace DFW data center.

The current server goes offline next Sunday I think, so I need to get it done before then.

Everything should go over fine, but I'll need Sue to update the nameservers for the domain. Sue, I'll let you know when.

There will be some downtime while things are transferring and DNS is propagating, but it shouldn't be all that long. Maybe a few hours.

Everything should come up the way it is (I already migrated it as a test), but in the long run I'm still somewhat interested in switching to something other than phpBB ....

The good news is that, although it will be virtualized rather than a full physical server, I'll have twice as much dedicated RAM! And it will be on a RAID which will increase reliability (if the current hard drive crashed, getting things up again would be quite an ordeal).

Also is it just me, or is this site super slow for everyone else? It's been a while since I popped in here.

It often is slow, but it's not consistent. Sometimes I'll pop in and it moves at a regular speed; other times I visit, it feels like I'm on dial up again.

On new server now. Seems fast so far.

Sorry for the downtime; the nameserver changes propagated faster than I expected, and I wasn't in a position to finalize things until now.
