The Petra Zone

I've been watching the discussions that have taken place here recently about trying to encourage Petra to do some kind of reunion show. Although the situation may seem fairly hopeless when it comes to getting them together for such a concert, I wonder if maybe Petheads aren't going about this the wrong way.

I am forced to think about how fans of Stryper got their band back together. They did it by holding Stryper Expo's that garnered a lot of interest from fans and even drew the interest of band members. This turned out to be quite successful and played no small part in getting them back together. Now I'm not saying the same thing could necessarily happen with Petra, but I do wonder if holding some type of yearly convention that celebrates Petra, might not do some level of good. It would certainly be enjoyable for the fans and would help to keep the memory of Petra and their ministry alive, but it could also help generate renewed interest as well. It worked for Stryper and heck, it even worked for Star Trek.

I think it would be a good idea. Fans could put one together and if it's even half way successful, do it again and keep doing it year after year, so long as it's reasonable to do so. Each year, invite not only the fans, but also send out invitations to any and all who have at any time been a member of Petra to come and join us. Maybe eventually some of them will be willing to not only come, but maybe even to play. You could have other music acts as well. Fans who could do musical tributes to Petra and have praise and worship. There could be trading of fan collectibles, Tables where people could by T-shirts, CDs and whatever else, food of course and whatever other cool things people can think of to make it a fun time.

I don't know, just something to think about. You never know what could happen over time. You'll never know if you don't try.

PETRA IS DEAD get over it people and move on. listen to the cd's watch the videos and youtube clips but the men involved with the group are no longer willing to do it for money or for free or for the fans or for God or for ministry or anything else you want to dream up or spiritualize. It has nothing to do with us the "fans" or anything else for that matter. EGO is alive. PETRA is DEAD.
It's up to you who you want to support whether it's Johns solo work or Greg X or some other project like the lame Lichens. But don't assume it's about the fans, it's not about the fans or money , or anything but EGO. So it's time to let it go. Pull the plug PETRA is DEAD.

A convention would be cool, this has been done in the past... this is far more realistic than the band back together.

Bob and the guys know that they still have some fans. It is not a matter of showing proof of fans. It is a matter of willingness to associate and then invest time for one show.

Petra and Stryper really aren't comparable. Petra helped bring rock and roll to the church. Stryper took God rock to the world. BIG difference in fan base and sales. Stryper outsold Petra several times over. So, Stryper still has a demand that is able to sustain them in smaller venues throughout the USA. Petra has no demand for a tour.

If people are going to spend their hard earned money and time to come to a Petra event, it had better be a full blown production. Just looking at products that and chatting is nothing to draw people. We can do all of that on-line.

petranite, it seems you must have some sort of axe to grind with your constant posts of PETRA IS DEAD, season of death for Petra, EGO is alive, etc.

WHAT is the problem?? Not only do you constantly put down the band, the men in the band and their perceived attitudes/egos (and unless you have spoken to them personally you really DO NOT know their motivations or lack thereof), but now you're ragging on the Petheads and their feelings as well.

Preacherman777 put out an idea - whether or not it's feasible has yet to be seen. But at least he's thinking outside the box, coming up with possibilities and sharing them.

Now to Sue... whatever.... I am sick to death of your relentless defense of this issue but guess what who cares about that either. I am deducing from past interviews and inside information on issues between these guys once called Petra. I take the evidence and then come to a decision and guess what I believe there is more evidence to support that PETRA is DEAD then there is to support PETRA is ALIVE. And about the Stryper thing, I'm seeing them on this tour because they are ALIVE and they could put bad blood behind them (ya even Tim Gaines). Is Stryper perfect heck no not at all but can they share a stage for one night ya can they share a stage for an entire tour heck ya. So they can at least do what the Petra guys can't.

I need no convincing of the DEATH by the way. I just didn't cut and run like Brent did I defended my position. As to me spending hours on here, well nice speculation but here is my soundbyte "NO I DON'T" wow a specific answer to a specific criticism and I didn't even need a publicist or manager to defend me. Like me or not agree with me or not I've been more straight with you about this issue then any member of this band.

Oh ya that's right they don't owe us an explenation. We are just fans and the general public. R.I.P. PETRA.......

True, but if an annual convention gathered motion, that would show more than just fans - it would show that there were fans serious enough to throw down money and time to gather in one place and celebrate the band. It would be a step in the right direction, which I think is all the preacherman was suggesting. Lets face it, the chance of going from nothing to reunion gig is practically nil. What if they only got 100 people turn up?! Putting on an annual convention on the other hand, is much less risky but demonstrates intent. I think it's a great idea!

While I think it's a good idea and something with positive direction, I think it will be hard to get everyone to a central location for this. I assume it would have to be in Nashville to get the band guys interested in coming, but most of us are from all over the world. I guess I'm open to the idea, though.

What kind of things would we do at this festival if the band weren't there? I'm sure people could tell all about their concert experiences but what else? What would drive us to meet every year? It would be different if the band was recording but not touring. But since they are doing neither, what would we have to talk about in year 2 or 3?

I would think if you did it Nashville, you would have an easier time securing a venue, equipment, musicians, etc. John could perform, and even II Guyz. Why not get the Guardian guyz to play. They covered an entire Stryper album. I'll bet they could easily cover some Petra.

Now, back to the annual Pet-fest...that is a waste of time. Even Stryper's was not a huge event. It is all about the cash people. If the group could have offered the guys $50-75k, maybe they would have deemed it worthy. It is not enough money for their trouble. If they will not come for $25k then a Petra-fest will not draw them.

You can make the show happen anywhere. In fact it would probably cheaper to not have it in Nashville. It would not matter for the guys because only John and John L are there consistently. Louie travels most of the time and Ronny is in Louisiana.

They DON'T owe anyone anything. They gave an explanation by not agreeing for the amount offered at this time. They did not publicize a date and then bail. So, it isn't their fault.

Fans sometimes take ownership of a band that they like, and that is spooky.
