New Whitecross!

Post by rexreed » Wed Mar 27, 2024 7:20 am

Last Friday Whitecross dropped a brand new album- Rex Carroll without Scott Wenzel. WHAT? Petra is touring, Whitecross has a new album- is this 2024 or 1994?

I like the new album- I can't get enough of Rex Carroll electric licks and riffs. The video for Fear No Evil looks cheap and amateur, sadly.

Can you have Whitecross without Scott Wenzel? His voice is such a distinctive part of their sound.

Edit: So I've listened to the album, and while it's a good hard rock/metal album, musically it sounds more like the band Civil War than it does Whitecross with the new lead singer even sounding strikingly similar to Civil War's Nils Johansson. Rex Carroll has always been a bit of an Eddie Van Halen clone, but he's an exceptionally good one and easily carries this album. The rhythm players do their job keeping things grounded while Rex plays like a boss.

I took a look at the band's Wikipedia page since I've not really followed them closely over the years, and I was surprised to see just how much of a revolving door band they've been. Scott Wenzel was with the band the longest from 1985 to 2017, which is a heck of a run. Rex Carroll is the second longest member. He was with them from 1985 to 1994 when he took a leave of absence, rejoining in 2000 to present. They've had a ton of different drummers and bass players, although the two fellows with the band now, drummer Michael Feighan and bassist Benny Ramos have been with them since 2000, although they've only released two albums in that time, one in 2005, and the most recent in 2024.
