I am new to the board, but a long time Petra fan. They saved me from diving into music that would have been so unhealthy. I literally was holding some hard, ungodly music in my hands until my youth pastors son replaced it with On Fire!


Now I am a music teacher in a public school, and a music/worship minister.

hmmm.... what effect did Petra have on my life?

So much scripture I know from Petra songs. (I never could get into the Bible drill stuff)

BUT..
I wouldn't waste a second of time with this guy from corrupt christian bands??

) and I have never heard of the guy.

The demo is called On and On... It is mostly straight up rock. But the primary purpose was to get some of my original material off of paper and onto cd. Some of it my band would play, some of it is for my wife (a singer)

I wouldn't worry about arguing with that guy. Don't waste your breathe or your time. There will always be people in this world who think Christian rock music is evil. Instead of getting upset just pop in the Audio A CD with the Houseplant song. Maybe it will make you feel better

It is kind of funny he compared Christian rock concerts to Woodstock. I don't ever remember people having sex in tall grass at Christian concerts. Although, maybe I am just ignorant.

At Christian concerts they never have to announce the brown acid is bad acid.

The fellow either hasn't seen the Woodstock film or he hasn't been to a Christiain concert, or both.

is your wife the person that is singing? well, if she is, tell her I think is great!!!!!WOW, what i like is that hervoice is not "common" ya know, you can hear many singers who sound almost like the same but her voice is different, tell her God has given her a gift and that don`t let anyone tell her the opposite.

My only problem is that I don`t understand HAHAHA, i mean, i need to train more my ear because sometimes i can`t understand english when people is singing, it depends, but the voice and the music, WOW. i encourage everyone to listen this, is great.

I understood the half, I really like the chorus, is the kind of rythm that sticks to your mind and can be singing it in your mind you have a great voice Jason , how cool that you and your wife be on the same ministry

I was telling pethead Mateo84 through email how many musicians and bands are here and ya know what`s awesome? that each music style is different, many might be "rock" but like it or not, each one sound sdifferent, each one has something to say and to give to the Lord and to the people. God might have given us similar callings or talents but each one is different and special in itself.

You must relate to each person from their point of view. In the Bible if a person was offended by you eating meat, you should not. This person is offended by Petra and others using "Secular or unGodly" rock music for God. Petra and others, in his opinion, used something unGodly; meaning we were conforing to the world, instead of the world conforming or coming to God.

But, this does not mean he is right.

Everyone starts their life in the "secular" world before coming to Christ. Therefore, we have learned secular things. Satan uses TV for bad things, does this mean we should not watch TV. Same for radio, etc. Our purpose is to glorify god and make disciples of all men. Sometimes that means doing things others view as wrong, (Like Jesus talking to the prostitutes). As long we don't fall into Satans trap, we can use things to His good. Petra may have listened to secular rock music in the past, but now they create music to glorify Him and spread His word. Petra's music is a way I can "talk" to my associates at work, without them turning a deaf ear to me. Petra's music has kept me on course in my Christian life with the lyrics and music they use. Thats why I love Petra and hope others can get from them.

They're not required to like Petra or like rock music, but to take a scripture out of context, build a whole doctrine around it and make a blanket condemnation of Petra and all those other bands isn't right. Especially if they haven't bothered to listen to their music or spent any time talking to these people. And they didn't seem to be doing this out of hopes of improving CCM, they didn't really make any suggestions of how to improve things. It was just "these bands are evil and that's that." If you think something is wrong, you should be able to suggest a better alternative folks.

I don't think the Petra guys are perfect (sorry guys ) but their music has been a blessing to me over the years.
