yeah those pesky laws..

It's STEALING no matter how it's packaged.

where are the handcuffs and the fingerprint ink

Personally, I think real fans will respect copyrights and financially support the bands' efforts by buying their music.
Indeed.
PetfanInCt,

Dude, you are misquoting me. I don't know if it's intentional, or if you don't know how to use the quote button, but the quote you gave above is bogus.

If you are going to quote me, please do so correctly.

Thank you

if i cant stick my nose in,

i have a CCLI number, http://www.ccli.com/UnitedStates.cfm

Christian Copyright Licenseing International, i can use Christian music in any way i see fit, if i record (as in keep tract) the artists and pay my fees at the end of the year, so yes i am legally sharing music, and the artist's are being paid, thats the only legal way around it, btw last year i paid over 6,000USD in royalties plus 1,000USD for the License alone.

i HAVE used Zpoc, and it is garbage i know the creator, have known him for many many years, you cant get slots, and you can be a sitting duck if your system is not secure.

if you desire to share, (i am NOT advocating it, i happen to be lucky with CCLI) legal or not do your homework, i have several 1000 christian cd's and videos, and own every one for starters, second i make sure i am covered legally, because i own a business, i have a staff lawyer, she has helped me a ton, because we use music in bible studies and i stream Christian music and movies and videos, off my server to the 50 computers inside the net cafe for the users, i had to be legal or loose everything, and no one can access from the internet, that was part of the deal because i have over 100,000 mp3's and videos on that server alone, that can legally be streamed to the internal computers...not the net.

on my personal computer, because it is not a commercial entity, i have to use the license diffrently, it is hard to explaine but i wont bore you with the legal mumbo-jumbo, but i pay for my special permits from CCLI.

if you have the ability to do this, it helps with spreading the gospel the legal way, the issue is not really RIAA or CCLI but what does GOD speak to your heart about??

my most popular d/l's are MWS first and Petra second, funny how that works eh??

2 things

Post by executioner » Tue Jul 06, 2004 6:57 am

2 things I want to say.

1. It is considered stealing in God's eyes so why are we as Christians debating this.

2. You in no way are supporting the artists when you buy these files, All or most of this money goes straight to the record co. Very rarely does an artist know days make money off of sales from their albums unless they sale them at their concerts.

hey all,

please dont say i am "stealing" or doing anything illegal, i am doing as my contract stipulates, and am in compliance 100% of the time, thats how the artists get paid, and i am all for that

i am not sure the last post was for me, but i paid full rip for those cd's and STILL pay royalties, think about how much i have paid every cd over and over the past 3 years, i am not complaning, just point and fact, most people pay once and never pay again, royalties vary from .10 cents to 1.00 and you dont know what it is till you get your bill at the end of the year, i have a seperate bank account set up to pay for it all.

since i have purchased all the cd's legally and i still have to pay royalties, same as a church, same as a revival tent, same as anyone else using the CCLI system to be in compliance, which if your not, think RIAA, and yes a Christian company still sues Christians, since we are getting to brass tacks.

but i see this is a dead tree, being most dont understand the Christian copyright issues, they are a FAR cry from secular music, i wont even go any further.

how the break down is for bands and what they get paid i dont exactly know, i do know it has gotten better over the years, and i know this for fact, they front all the money for studio time, audio and video, and they front most if not all the money for touring, and take 1/2 the door, and 100% of table sales and get about 45% of cd sales overall.

thanks and Blessings

Todd,

That was not meant for you, it was for an earlier post. You are doing the right thing. Actually to comment on your other comment. It has gotten a lot worse for artists. Most artists are paid a certain amount upfront which is not alot, but they agree to just to get a contract. Record Companies will paid the studio fees for new artist. The way artist makes money is on concert sales of tickets, cd's, t-shirts etc.etc.... They do have to buy their own CD's to sell at concerts from the Label. It does seem to alot better in the secular world than in CCM which gives it a black eye. Most record companies in CCM seem to be very unchristian like with their artists.

Zpoc is not all bad...and I'll tell you one positive aspect of it. This is not to say, thats why most people use it, but it is a OK reason to download by any artist in the world.......

Someone says to me "check out this artist, I think you'd like them"

So, I've downloaded it and (A) liked it and BOUGHT the CD or
(B) didn't like it and erased the file.

My two cents...

will i be attacked?
