Two places to look for the Akai Adam would be http://www.gearslutz.com and maybe http://messageboard.tapeop.com/

There were many performance problems with the MG1212s. The biggest problem now is tape. There are no MG20s being made, and new old stock does not exist. They aren't really desirable anymore and are worthless.

I suppose I can pull dig out my tape and see what information is on it. What is an MG1212? Any idea if it uses the same tape as the Adam. It sounds like it is the same tape, from what I've read. I found a guy with a studio that transfers MG1212 tapes, although not cheap. Not the price I was looking for in this economy. If my tape is compatible, that opens up some options

Not the same. The MG1212 was the analog 12 track with built in mixer. The Adam was the digital version. They did not use the same tape or heads.

Gotcha. Thanks. I found a couple for sale, but have yet to find a studio that has one up and running.

You probably won't either because those were basically video head transports. They wore out quickly. The other issue was their conversion. They used first gen technology, 12 bit! Those first converters were "stepped ladder" converters, developed for data, not music. We no longer use them.
