Jesus did suffer alot, just not the way mel portrayed it
Okay, Rich. I say it's time for you to read the New Testament account of the crucifixion. Then, you need to study Roman customs of that time and how crucifixions were done to fill in the gaps (the New Testament does not go into FULL, illicit detail).
With a statement like the one you've made above, I'd say you haven't read, or at least not comprehended, what the New Testament says about Jesus' crucifixion, nor the historical account of the event. Otherwise, you couldn't make that kind of statement, except for that you don't really understand what happened.
I have read what God says about the crucifixion.
I dont hate mel. or catholics. I do however dislike the doctrine ..Its a false doctine and teaching.
Jesus is My LORD and SAVIOR. Jesus died on the cross for my Sin. He took my place on the cross. He died to give me life.
I'm weak in myself through Jesus I have strength
I'm broken within myself,. I am made whole in Jesus
Jesus is God. and he the ruler of my life.

Secondly, let's talk about the Life of Brian. There's one Python fan out there. Any others?
Yes.

It takes talent to act like complete morons and still be funny...Satire at its best.

And there aren't too many movies 20 something years old that can make me laugh whenever I watch it.
Young Frankenstein and Ghostbusters are a couple of other old movies that always make me laugh.

Can you give me scripture where God goes into detail about the crucifixion.
Psalm 22 in particular gives a fairly graphic account of the crucifixion. For instance, it describes the raging thirst that accompanied crucifixion, as well as the dislocation of his bones and the prominence of his ribs.
The language of the gospels suggests that Jesus looked a bit like roadkill when he went to the cross, and you have a couple quoted passages from Isaiah to look at, too.
While the gospels themselves are fairly sparse on detail, much of it may be ascertained by a careful and thorough reading of prophecies. I agree with you that the physical suffering of Christ was not the primary suffering--surely putting aside his position in heaven was to suffer beyond human comprehension, and the sundering of the Godhead is a theme we find everywhere in the Psalms (e.g., Ps. 22:1)--but it is well documented in Scripture.

Thanks, Matthew for providing that link. I guess that's what we've been trying to say in this thread - that the basics are correct and that The Passion can be used as tremendous tool for sharing the Gospel.
I don't think anyone who saw the film will claim that the film is 100% correct in it's Biblical content. After all, this is Hollywood, and as such one could expect artistic content or drama to be added. Personally, I am not bothered by all the little "details".
Here is the greater good: The Passion demonstrates that our sins - yours and mine - put Jesus on that cross. And because of His miraculous resurrection, we can have eternal life if we believe. This movie has the ability to turn a casual lukewarm believer into a sold out soul for Christ. It can enbolden Christians to share the Gospel and inspire unbelievers to respond to the Gospel.
