Bad news.

For anyone who doesn't already know, guitarist Dimebag Darrell, formerly of Pantera, now with Damageplan, was shot and killed last night, along with a few other people at a nightclub in Ohio. Now I'm not a huge Pantera fan, but the guy was a really great guitar player. It's a shame to see things like this happen to people, famous or not. What a shocker, and a sad day in the metal community.
Sobering...

That's pretty sobering stuff when you're not safe on a concert stage anymore. Then again, society has dictated that a mother's womb isn't even a safe place anymore either. That's a discussion for a different day...
I don't know if anyone here remembers the band '40 Days'... they were produced by Mac Powell of Third Day and had a radio hit or two around 2000-2001 (most notably, 'Long Way Home'). Anyway, in 1999, they were playing at a See You at the Pole event in Ft Worth, Texas where a gunman came in (the band once told me DURING the performance... they almost thought it was part of the rally) and killed seven people and then himself. Why does it come to this?
Prayers for the families, the hurting... that the good God can bring in the midst of and despite such situations is quickly evident for the benefit of our fragile and finite minds. Yet, HIS will be done...

Yeah, it's sad, but they didn't call him "dime bag" for nothing, eh?

He may have been called "dime bag" for a reason, but that doesn't mean someone has the right to walk into a club and shoot him. It was probably someone he didn't know, and his family is probably hurting. It is pretty sad.

Yeah for sure. Still isnt cool for someone to come into the place, storm the stage and pop 5 founds into his head. He certainly didnt have the coolest of names. No excuse thou.
The guy paid the ultimate price he was shot dead also.

It is sad. I didn't mean to diminish the fact that he had a soul and a family.
There has to be more to the story than some crazed fan mad at him for "breaking up" Pantera. Are people that stupid? Well, you don't have to answer that.
Where was security? Geez, there was more seucity at the Barney concert that I took my toddlers too years ago.

Barney concert?? Man, (shaking head in amazement and disbelief), you must really love those kids. I'd rather take a beating than sit through a Barney concert.
But yeah, security must have been at an absolute minimum for all that to go down.

Anyone who is around little kids has to put up with Barney. I'm usually pretty tolerant, but...GAG.
It is pretty sad, things just aren't as safe as they used to be.

Shell's signature says: "Quit blowing holes in my ship!!!" Captain Jack in Pirates.
Captain Kirk says, "Hey ya-baby. How bout I beam over, talk about the federation and love on all the green women."

Oh, if he had been able to get past the censors, he likely would have said that...
Pirates was a funny movie.

I was really sad to hear about Dimebag Darrell and all those who were killed. I used to always see Dimebag Darrell in the Musician's Friend catalogs. I feel especially bad for his brother, who was also his bandmate.
On a lighter note, one time one of my coworkers said to me, "So, how's Pantera?" I said, "Pantera?" She said, "Yeah, you know, that band that you're friends with." I said, "Oh! You mean Petra!" She said, "Oh, I thought they were called Pantera. Isn't there a band called Pantera?" I said that there was, but it wasn't anyone I listened to!

I wonder what Dimebag Darrell is thinking about right now in eternity?

He's probably wishing that he could talk to us either way.
