Bash Bush

I have to give equal time!
First, there was report this week that war casualties are at the lowest they have ever been in history. It didn't take long for a left leaning opinion to surface, saying that was bad thing. The person said that the soldiers we were saving would be better off left to die because their quality of life was going to be bad. I'd like to get a hold of some of those crazy leftists, chop an arm or leg off, and see if they want to be left to die.

Second, equal time to bashing the right. Bush signed off on an expense bill this week. Given the huge deficit, and the need for further war spending, he should have had the courage to reject it because of all the pork that was included. The bill featured such spending as: millions for Alaska, an indoor rain forest in Iowa, and bus transportation to and from disney land. In don't know where, but there is a source to find out everything that is in the bill. It's mind blowing. Our taxes could be greatly slashed, the deficit could go away forever, and major problems around the world could be solved if someone stood up to special interests and said "no more pork!". Most of the things that the money is spent on would go away if they were not gov't funded, because the people would never give their own money to help. Most people don't want any of that stuff. But, the folks in congress don't exactly care what the people want. George W. claims to care, but he should have had the cahonies to say no!

But, I still think he's better than any other choice we had in the election. and he's one of the best presidents in a long time.

Funny you should mention that, G-Man...

The part about tax $$$ going to help create an artificial rain forest (i.e. not naturally grown) here in Iowa is true. Sad? Yes! Stupid? Yes! Waste of time and money? Yes!

Why we Iowans always think of these cockamamie ideas is beyond me. Part of it stems, I guess, from Iowa (especially Des Moines) wanting to be known for more than just corn, cows, and combines. We're trying to be more urban, more hip...anything to move away from our "rural" stereotypes. But, as you can see...we are failing miserably.

Another thing they are doing here in Des Moines is building a 15,000-seat "Events Center". The powers-that-be think that if this monstrosity is built, more concerts will come to Des Moines. As it is now, most "big-name" music acts skip Iowa. These acts usually hit Omaha in the west, Minneapolis in the north, Chicago (or Quad Cities) in the east, and Kansas City in the south.

This "Events Center" will be just another financial boondoggle that we Iowa taxpayers (especially here in Des Moines) will be on the hook for millions of $$$ over a span of many, many years.

I don't know who said it, but I agree with this quote...

"I LOVE MY COUNTRY...BUT HATE MY GOVERNMENT!".
