Tithing vs. Giving

Looking for opinions here. Scriptually sound opinions would be nice! 
Is tithing a requirement of New Testiment Christians or is this something that is a part of the Mosaic Law and thus not required of us? If you believe it is required, why did Paul never discuss this item with the church?
