Stry-poll # 5 1/2: the two 1991 extras

This hit compilation album isn't really worth buying unless you buy it used for a low price (like I did, thank goodness). However the 2 previously unreleased songs are both great and worth listening if you are a Stryper fan.

Believe - very different from other Stryper stuff. Beautiful song, I love the chords and the rhythm. The tempo is moderate - not too slow, not too fast. The lyrics are patriotic and dedicated to the soldiers serving our country. I assume the Gulf War is what inspired this song, since it was going on at the time. But I'm sure the lyrics also relate to spiritual warfare as well. "If we stand in unity, we'll win with dignity. Our strength has said it all, pray and believe."

Can't Stop the Rock this is my favorite of the two. It carries over the Against the Law sound with its bluesy guitar solos - but it also goes back to Stryper's roots. It poses some similarities to The Rock that Makes Me Roll from Soldiers Under Command; maybe that's because both songs have a swing rhythm and a similar tempo. And what's cool about the titles is that they parallel some Petra song titles, with it's double-meaning use of the word Rock. (rock music and the Rock of Jesus)

As far as the hit compilation, songs that I think should have also been included are Calling On You and Against the Law. The song I would have left out is Lady because I don't think it is a strong hit.

I voted for Can't Stop The Rock. I liked this compilation because it had all my favorites of theirs on one CD.

Are there previously unreleased songs on any of Stryper's other hit compilations? Did Stryper record any other new songs from 1992-2004?

On "7 The Best Of Stryper"(which came out in 2003) the first two tracks, "Something" and "For You" are previously unreleased songs.
