I generally don't agree with banning people from message boards. Being rude or a troll is definitely poor judgment, but people should be given an opportunity for restorative justice. He could apologize (genuinely) and we could all move on.
By the way, really enjoying the Classic Petra hype!

For those of us who didn't get a chance to read what he said, I would like to know what he said to ruffle so many feathers before I vote.

The comments were rather rude and didn't really serve any good purpose, but if you start taking stuff like that too personally it will drive you crazy. The best way to handle that sort of thing is not to respond to it. Many times, though not always, it will stop if there is no response. If that doesn't work, maybe a private message along the lines of "could you cool it with the comments" might be in order. If that doesn't work, maybe that would be the time for a board moderator to step in and tell them if it continues they will be banned. Then if they continue and are banned, they will have been warned.
That's not the final word or anything, and handling it that way may not always work, but at least the person will have had fair warning and been given the chance to knock it off or reap the consequences before they're actually banned.

I say give him a chance. Is just that I felt it was disrespectful, just like saying "who cares". I mean, if you are here and post, is because you care about whatever is being said.

He may be a little immature but jiminy crickets he was pretty mild. He got banned for that? Some folks have gotten a lot more vile discussing religious minutia and they are still here.

I found what Jekyll wrote and I think that he is one of those people that just wants to start arguements, and bad mouth everything Petra, but having said that I think we should allow him to post but watch him like a hawk and be strict if he posts stupid or innaporiate comments.

I agree.

I missed the drama, but if the guy is a potential problem then is there any way to moderate his comments before they're posted? I know some forum software allows you to prevent posts from specific users appearing publicly until they have been vetted by a moderator. That could be a solution that will satisfy all parties involved.

Agreed, for whatever my opinion is worth.

First time I've seen an entire thread devoted to a successful troll.
Jekyll wins.

Well, we all have at least the capacity to be trolls, even if we don't act on that impulse. If he's asking for another chance I think he should have it. I think that's an indication on his part he wants to correct things. We've all done things at some time or another we need forgiveness for. And really, although I don't condone his comments, I've seen comments just as bad or worse on other threads that nobody was banned for. We've probably all made comments at some time or another we could potentially be banned for when you stop to think about it.
Like I've said, you can't take all this Internet stuff too personally.
