Freedom is #1 for me, but the more I listen to Redemption it might overtake it someday.

Re: White Heart
I really tried to like WH but never seemed to like more than one song per album. I'm glad they were around, and knew a lot of ppl that loved them. I think the best rocker was on a later album called Inside. Unchained was a great ballad. I have to say that when I think of weak guitar solos the first thing that comes to mind is the one in Independence Day. Rick Florian was a darn good lead singer. I only saw them once, and they were touring with Whiteheart. Great show!

Re: White Heart
My favorite White Heart album is TALES OF WONDER.
I saw White Heart open for Petra on the NO DOUBT tour (which was also the first time I ever saw Petra live). They did an amazing cover of U2's "In The Name Of Love". Went out and bought TALES OF WONDER the very next day.

Re: White Heart
I was and still am a huge White Heart fan...when Greg Volz left Petra, WH was one of my two favorite Christian bands (the other being the Daniel Band). I became a fan of theirs at Vital Signs. And when they released Hotline, they actually came to my home town three different times, and I saw them every time! Saw them a number of other times on subsequent tours.
My favorite is probably Powerhouse, and I have to say that Independence Day is my favorite WH song...the solo IS different, but I like it. Freedom runs a close second, probably followed by Hotline.
But Vital Signs will always have a special place for me...Dann Huff's got some cool guitar work on there.
Tales of Wonder and Highlands are also very good albums.
To be honest, I didn't pay any attention to Inside or Redemption until just a couple years ago. I've downloaded a number of songs from each from iTunes. They are okay, but they are my least favorite WH albums.

Re: White Heart
I like the first one most, because of when it came out, what it was and who was in it. After the second, whiteheart was no longer truly whiteheart, but it morphed into a band that changed with the times and produced some good music. Hotline was a rockin tune. Freedom was ok. I got burned out on most of the ballad stuff in between because that was when I was working in Christian radio and we played the snot out of them.

Freedom, mainly because I liked all but one or two songs on it. I did enjoy Redemption.

Re: White Heart
Keep Fighting the Fight is another good one from Hotline.
I can see where'd you get tired of the ballads working in Christian radio. I feel that way about a lot of ballads from the 80s, and that was just listening!
Personally, I'm glad Steve Green left. They had some good songs and he's a great singer, but he didn't want to rock and the rest of them did...much to my liking!! Besides, if he hadn't gone solo, that would have only left my sister with Amy Grant, Brown Bannister and Evie!
You mentioned how their sound changed, and I'm not disagreeing there, but I always felt like Petra was trying harder to keep up with the changes in secular music than White Heart...at least it seems to me there were more drastic changes in Petra's sound than WH.

Rick had some energetic moves as the frontman- almost looks like he needed to go to the restoom really bad.

Re: White Heart
Favorite album... that's a tough one. I've got from Don't Wait through Redemption. The last two, Inside and Redemption, sound too dark for my taste... I never really got into them. It really depends on what I want to listen to. Anything from Don't wait for the Movie through Highlands.... sorry.

Re: White Heart
Tales and Highlands were primo for me. The songs on Inside are good, but I thought the producer wrecked it. The remakes that Billy did on his Neverlost project were better. Change the Way, Nothing but The Best, His Heart Was Always In It, Unchained, Silhouette, Gabriella; all fantastic stuff. The vocals, the harmonies, all the different parts, Billy's guitar work; all artistic stuff to me.
I saw them with Petra just before they launched the Saltbox tour. I thought Whiteheart was better that night. The U2 cover was awesome. That was the night Louie actually had to stop playing during Praying Man because the band was out of sync. It was probably Lichens' fault.
Whiteheart was a class act too. They were willing to travel quite a way to do a last minute show in place of Whitecross and Bride, who had to bail for illness and some other reason. They had prerelease copies of Highlands available, and they debuted a bunch of those songs. They also did Drummer Boy and Montana Sky. Silhouette was always awesome live, and John Knox was the bomb.

Re: White Heart
Power House, for sure. Highlands is probably second, then Don't Wait for the Movie and Freedom. Don't Wait and Freedom were the first Christian rock tape and CD I owned, respectively. I wish I could have seen the Saltbox tour when they and Petra shared the stage. Would have been awesome.

Freedom was a very good record. They did other good records too. But I was never a big fan of them.
It's the same story as with a lot of other christian artists. They make some good records and a lot of records that are not very good, not very interesting. Take Guardians Miracle Mile. Very interesting. But what came next? A lot of not as good records that I never listen to. Take Bride's Snakes In The Playground. Very, very good record. And afterwards they made a lot rather boring records. They could have done SOOOOO much better if they really wanted to.
White Heart did the same in my oppionion. There were too many uninteresting songs on their records.

Well, the problem is you're looking in the wrong direction.curt wrote:Freedom was a very good record. They did other good records too. But I was never a big fan of them.

Guardian's best album, imo, was Power of Love, which came right before Miracle Mile. After that, yeah, they did the modern rock thing, and it wasn't all that great. Bottle Rocket wasn't bad, and then they covered Stryper's Yellow and Black Attack, which I thought was very good.
