One of rhe favorite bands of my teen years. Rex Carroll is a great with the axe.

Yes, he is a totally amazing guitar player.

I like their early stuff(first 3 albums) but it seems they tried to go to commercial and the sound just got stale.

I used to think, "Woudln't it be great if Rex Caroll and Louie Weaver started their own band?"

Lead singer? Keyboard? Shucks, I figured if you had Rex and Louie, those other positions would kind of sort themselves out.

I'm definitely one to care about how my favorite bands look, but that was one ugly group of guys. The poofy hair just made it worse.

The lack of band photos on the front of their albums certainly reflects that...

Not to pile on, but I find their ballads flat and uninspired. It's like Rex was forced into doing something he didn't want to do...or didn't excel at. Musically and lyrically, just...SKIP>>

But I loved it when they got loud.

I kind of like the ballads the best!!!

My favorite CD of them was High Gear, it seemed to have the best stuff on it. I always thought I'm Askin' You Today was a really good one. Also liked My Love and Coming Home.

I really like the sound of End of the Line and It's Already Done, even though they weren't as rock sounding as some of the others.

In The Kingdom was another one of my favorites.

Oh come on now!!! Everybody looked like that in the 80's.

I liked some of their ballads very much. "In The Kingdom" was great. But the grinding metal is why I still listen to Whitecross.

As far as pure rockers go the first couple albums are my favorites. The problem is the production values on those was well below similar bands for the time. The later albums, especially when Dez Dickerson started producing, sounded a lot better, but they were a little less edgy. Lyrically it is a little embarrassing to admit I liked silly songs like Dance in Heaven- but the song is awesome!!! it just had lyrics that would appeal to a fifth grader. The Rex Carrol instrumentals are some of the best of the era. I honestly think Eddie Van halen would have a nervous breakdown if he was to be in a shred off with Rex. The rerecorded 1987 is pretty cool- way better sounding than the original and they kept the songs the same (unlike Double Take). GREAT TOPIC!

Thanks for posting this. I'm a 49 year old. My earliest rock song I remember was Road To Shangrila by Three Dog Night. Then of course came up through the 70's with Foreigner, Styx, The Eagles, etc. Then through the 80's and on.

In college, I listened to Phil Keaggy, Russ Taff and some others but didn't maintain my relationship with God until the last 4 years and got into K-Love and God convicted me to be more serious about Him.

I love to discover old Christian music and am sampling and enjoying many of the WhiteCross songs. Dancin' In Heaven, Walk With Me, No Second Chances, In The Kingdom, He Is The Rock. Love them.

I really enjoy the melodic metal so any suggestions are encouraged and greatly appreciated. I look forward to worshipping God with you all for eternity.
