Facebook removed a DIY abortion post right, then apologized for deleting it!

If there is any truth to the Social Network movie, I really do not like it anyway.

On the flip side, free speech is free speech. While I do not care for people saying stupid and immoral things, it is just as much their right as it is mine to speak out against them. With our speech limited, we lose the ability to debate the issues.

People that cannot see abortion is what it is are delusional and just plain running from the truth, because it suits them. I think this speaks volumes:

Who needs a reason? They don't charge you a penny to use it. If you don't like it then leave it. As for leaving because of the abortion post, well any company or person probably has something you don't agree with in their past or future so why not leave civilization. I may stop using alcohol to clean my wounds because they also use it in abortion clinics to sterilize. From here on out I will only use my own spit.

The "Christian" market keeps going through this everytime some company or somebody does something that we disagree with. The thing is, it's everywhere you turn today. I live in California..........

I've never been a user and will never be. Did you know that about 15% of all fraud done through the internet is linked back to fb usage. There are some police departments(Dallas & Shreveport, La) are 2 that have recommended people unsubscribe to fb and avoid it at all cost. Most work related servers and public libraries have blocked fb from their servers.
I had indentity theft happened to me about 16 months ago and they got into my sons fb account traced his usage back to his smartphone, hacked into my Sprint account, and through that got my bank account and SSN and went on a small spending spree and attempted to by a car plus opened a credit card under my name with Target. When I filed the charges with my police department the first thing the detective asked me was "do I have a fb account"? He said they get 15-20 complaints a week and most of them are traced back to fb.

I come across a lot of fraud stories involving Craigs List. It pretty much is killing the local newspaper with the loss of classified ads, yet more and more of the posts on Criagslist are scams. Sometimes the post is real but the people responding to them are scammers- sometimes murderers. Yes this sort of thing happened before, but far less since you had to walk over to the newspaper and fill out the form. I think CL will cease to be what it is today- folks are tired of the risk, but the papers will already be dead.

Rex, I understand that Facebook has done some amazing stuff and hasn’t visibly cost anyone out of pocket expense, and I completely see your point of view.
I think Facebook users don’t completely understand the willingness to give personal information to a private company for free is the most insane thing that has happened on the Internet in recent times. It wasn’t that long ago that people were paid to take anonymous surveys either online or mail in exchange for money to get an idea of what people like some it could be used for marketing.
Facebook is getting the perfect survey of a person’s life for free, and it is updated monthly, daily and sometimes... even by the minute. The US Govt. loves Facebook, because it is the cross reference, they had always wanted.
I personally think the idea of someone posting how to take the life of an unborn baby is wrong. I am all for freedom of speech! However, I think this is a grey area.

I get what you are saying too Brent. But someone still had to post it. Using a computer made by another company and most likely a camera made by someone else. I use a camera to take pictures of my daughter and I use a computer to save the images. I don't hold the manufacturers( or FB) accountable so much as the person that posted. Without actually checking the story out it sounds like someone at FB thought the post was in bad taste as well but then someone else higher up the chain decided they did not want to be in the censoring business, at least they got one thing right- they offended both sides at some point with what happened. I can take FB or leave it.

You know, there are good points and bad points to everything. As a musician I find it helpful to have Facebook, Reverbnation, Twitter and Myspace all linked together so I can post updates to fans and listeners. Alot of this stuff is developed for communication. I understand how you feel about people watching your life, but I got news for you, they've been doing that since you were born, we all have Social Security Cards here in the US, we have a Drivers Licens, we all have Bank Cards or Checks that goes through a computer system to ID us, seeing that we are spending our own Money and how much Money we still have left in our accounts, or what we spent the Money on.

To say that you're ok as long as you don't use Facebook is off by a texas mile. We have camera's on all the street lights, what's that for? Google street view? um...not if it's being paid for by the governement. And also the Governement has been couting the population for decades now. Those of us in the USA have to register at age 18, your school records are setting down in a office in the middle of the town where you grew up complete with your mother and father's name and the year you were born and your social security number. Your taxes have all your info on them.

When is the last time you shopped at a store using your ATM card? Did you know that Identity theft happens from Walmart employees who decide they need some extra money? It happend to my parents, they turned up with a tun of stuff charged to my mom's card at a Walmart Store from an employee after they got off of work, how did that happen? Wasn't Facebook.

And Google doesn't? If you are using GMail and use Google too, they have probably a lot more delicate information about you than that you liked a video of a fart on Facebook... Still, Facebook is always getting this kind of criticism and Google doesn't.

If you turn off the application platform in Facebook, you won't be infected with viruses and you won't give away information to fishy 3'rd party companies by mistake. So that is my advice to all facebook users: Turn of the application platform and skip all those games. You can play them directly on the developer's sites instead. Also restrict the access to everything you post to a smaller group of friends that you really rely on. I have some different friend lists and make different posts available to different lists.

Also most of those games are "BETA's" and are known to cause memory leaks in Windows. So you end up with your computer running a lot slower while you keep playing them. I stopped playing the games a long time and have been loving it ever since. I use facebook for it mostly is and that's communication with my family and communication with fans and listeners from both bands that I'm with.

Any type of online usage can be a hazard when it comes to security, but fb has been known to not only be lax on their security measures, but also has been known to allow third party companies to access users account info. One site(fb) generates(source) 15% of all online theft in world; that's a very high % considering the endless world of the internet.

no the internet ends, I saw the end of it yesturday. Still needs some work, I think it stopped at a server in Rusha, they didn't have enough money to network to another server. And only has a 250mb hard drive installed. It only cranks up when the weather gets a little warm 8)
