Or rather: So much of the noise is lost. For example: all the DA/AD conversions you skip by having all of your sound processing internally. But I guess you think noise equals high production quality, right?

No,just want to hear all the instruments like how they are suppose to be heard. The files used today are so limited to what it should be; better technology does not always mean better quality of sound

Well....we do have some toys but not like that. That was JJP's mixing studio at Alan Side's Ocean Way. That Focusrite console is no longer there, and He is no longer there. They have turned it into a post mix suite IIRC.

Jack Joseph Puig is an interesting guy. He is all about the vibe, very unassuming, soft spoken, and serious. He has a bunch of experience pinpointing gear for specific applications. He started working at a complex that turned out a large portion of the early 70's to early3 80's CCM albums. He even played on and engineered for The Imperials in the early Russ Taff days. Sadly, I do not think he is a Christian, and sadly, he probably did not find too much incentive to become one, knowing how things were back then. Who knows?

As for having analog equivalents in the computer, it just is not the same. It never will be. As George Massenberg has pointed out, we just do not have enough computing power in the universe to do mathematically what an analog compressor can do. We cannot sample at analog accuracy. We cannot have analog console bandwidth in digital. Some great Neve consoles are linear all the way out to 200kHz. I think that our high-end digital now is the future's low-end, but it will take some major innovations in chip manufacturing, be it carbon based, vertical or whatever. Heat is what is keeping us from having better digital sound. Well, that and harmonic killing filtering that keeps us from hearing the noise that makes digital work. Digital is too clean, and that is what people miss (distortion that feels good and sounds good in the musical context.

I love analog, but I have to tell ya, It sure is easier using ProTools, StudioOne, etc than a razor blade and splicing tape. Plus, we don't have to pay $350 per roll of 2" tape for the 24 track that lasts for all of 3.5 minutes. TB drives are sick! Love the bang for buck there.
