Here is the stage walk-through of John Petrucci's rig. Pretty cool. He has buttkickers in his footrests and in his cabs to compensate for the lack of low end and vibration in IEMs.

Hey Guitarists...
Re: Hey Guitarists...
Dream guitar rig. When you're as good as John, you can have all that. Took Decades of hard work to get there. To my ear, JP has about as good of rock guitar tone as you can get. I love how professional the Dream Theater crew comes off. Not alot of foul mouth rock band personna.....unless Mike Portnoy is doing the interview.

I like DT style but for some reason never been into them; what album or song of theirs would you recommend I start out with?

FORGIVE! FORGET! & LET GO!
Re: Hey Guitarists...
Like anything, it's a matter of personal preference. Their new album, A drastic turn of Events is awesome. My first DT album was 6 Degrees of inner Turbulance, and I've been hooked ever since. Scenes from a memory, and Train of Thought are a few of my other favorites.executioner wrote:what album or song of theirs would you recommend I start out with?

Wow, what a hard call. I can tell you that there were certain eras that appeal to me, and some albums that I just do not like in the middle of them. Some of their albums have more album oriented rock, because of a former keyboardist. I like those albums. They tend to have more emotional texture. They resonate with me. Awake and Falling Into Infinity are good for that era. You might check out Once In A Live Time, because that concert encapsulates that era. If you can, watch the videos of this concert.
Scenes From A Memory Live In New York is very cool. DT played their complete album, and then a second concert of the previous hits. After the 4 hour concert, Mike Portnoy (drummer) collapsed and had to be hospitalized. The dude is a machine.
6 Degrees is awesome. It is a dual disc concept album (and their first to be recording in ProTools). It has some great grooves!
I would just watch all of the concerts. Whether you like the music or not, they are just a fantastic machine to watch live.
