I'm assuming that Huff wrote the music and John wrote the lyrics, based on CD liner notes, but I could be wrong.

Depends on the contract. The smart ones jealously hold onto the rights to their music because that's where the money is. Steve Perry continues to earn millions a year from residuals for songs he wrote decades ago for Journey.
