bring back those old powerful words!

Post by brent » Fri Oct 17, 2008 6:37 pm

I was reading preacherman's remarks about Voltz. He said the word "hogwash". Some friends of mine are using archaic words like this, hoping that they will catch on in a fad-ish way.

The list of words includes:

boulderdash!
that's preposterous!
hogwash!

Have any others to add?

I regularly use "just dandy."

As in "how are you today?"
"I'm just dandy!"

I once told someone, "I hope you're not still sore at me."

I was promptly told by a coworker that Jane Austen wanted her word back.

Stinkpot (a gentle epithet referring to the general similarity of character between the subject and a chamber pot)
Doggone (an ejaculative, non-profane alternative to a swearing oath)
Hot dog! (an celebratory exclamation)
Gay (happy or carefree, as in "The Gay Illiterate," which was the title of Louella Parsons' first autobiography)

You know, I was just thinking about the phrase "mule-fritters" but that is a MASH thing.

I love Sherman T. Potter!

Horse Hockey!
Poney Pucks!
Buffalo Bagels!
Mule Muffins!

The thing about MASH is that I can watch it numerous times and continue to pick out subtleties previously missed while observing others or laughing.

The move was gross and pretty un-Godly at times. But the TV show was better. I liked the Trapper John years best.

What in Sam Hill? - Another good Colonel Potter saying. I liked him a lot too.

The TV show was MUCH better than the movie, and I can't imagine anyone else playing those characters.

Jumpin' Jehosaphat (don't know about the spelling there), holy moley and good golly are others you don't really hear any more.

This is kind of a fun trip down memory lane...But I shouldn't be admitting I'm old enough to remember this stuff... :P
