I agree with Brent. This was the first line up (save for John L.) that made any kind impact and that people really cared about. Not sure why we ended up with John L. rather than John S. as that probably would have been more fitting for the classic line up, but maybe Slick didn't want to do it or maybe they went with Lawry because in the grand scheme of things he probably became more well known as Petra's keyboardist and did also play with this line up, albeit for just one album and tour.
Having said that, it has kind of bothered me this whole time that keep referring to this line up as the original. It's just factually incorrect. I'm not going to charge them with being misleading or deceptive, maybe it's just ignorance, although you wouldn't think it should be. It's been sloppy, no question about it. They should just call it the classic line up and leave it at that. It would be much more accurate. Kind of like classic coke and new coke, except that new coke was a failure.

I agree with Brent and Preacherman assessment, and at the bare min it should be changed. When something like this is official the facts should be solid.

Exactly. That's all I'm saying. When I think of Petra, I think of this era (Slick instead of Lawry), and I think of the "Dream Team" era. But just because this version of the band (even though it's not exactly this version of the band) was the first version to make it big, that doesn't make these particular members any more "original." It's still inaccurate.Preacherman777 wrote:I agree with Brent. This was the first line up (save for John L.) that made any kind impact and that people really cared about. I agree. The problem with promoters and managers in the music industry is they like to hide part of the truth in order to get the best promotions out to the street. Louie said on "Revival" when people in general think of the start of Petra, they think of "Never Say Die" and on, not everyone thinks of the 1972 lineup. And to a point that's right. Never Say Die was the beginning of what Petra is known as today, that was the start of the modern Rock style that brought them the most success. Before that album they were not sure of who they were as a band yet, you had, Southern Rock up until WWT where they took an almost Country and Pop sound. Never Say Die was the start of PETRA's true Rock style.Exactly. That's all I'm saying. When I think of Petra, I think of this era (Slick instead of Lawry), and I think of the "Dream Team" era. But just because this version of the band (even though it's not exactly this version of the band) was the first version to make it big, that doesn't make these particular members any more "original."
