Taylor Swift's 1989. It will go platinum in 2 or 3 weeks.

The BLACK SABBATH singer's "Memoirs Of A Madman" CD sold 4,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 90 on The Billboard 200 chart.

That's all it takes now. CUH-RAY-ZEE!

Is this sales list just for albums released in 2014 or is it for all sales? I'm wondering because I know of artists like Metallica, Pink Floyd, & AC/DC that have albums that average over 1M copies per year in sales.

I thought I replied to this already. Weird.

Anyway, this is scanned sales. Taylor was the only Platinum record all year. Frozen sold more than 1M, but was not released in 14. It was technically released in 13. There are articles in Billboard and stats on the RIAA site. The bands you listed are not selling 1M a year in the USA alone. Possibly 1M elsewhere.

The top ten selling albums of 2014 (numbers probably rounded up to the nearest thousand)...

10. Eric Church The Outsiders 811,000
9. One Direction Four 814,000
8. Lorde Pure Herione 841,000
7. Barbara Streisand Partners 856,000
6. Beyoncé Beyoncé 878,000
5. Guardians Of The Galaxy movie soundtrack 898,000
4. Pentatonix That's Christmas To Me 1,114,000
3. Sam Smith In The Lonely Hour 1,121,000
2. Frozen movie soundtrack 3,530,000
1. Taylor Swift 1989 3,660,000

Fun fact...the Frozen movie soundtrack was the highest selling album until the very last week of the year, then Taylor Swift's 1989 overtook it to become #1.

Again, these are US scans. There are more sales in other markets.
