New Song (Fool Runnin) John Schlitt, John Lawry and Rex Carroll

Post by HudsonPethead » Sat Feb 15, 2020 1:45 pm

Kelly & Travis Frank’s debut album, ‘Come Close to Me’, is a compilation of powerful songs that will take you from falling in love to head banging with the hair bands, to leaping and dancing in church, to repenting on your knees in worship. ‘Come Close to Me’ will bring to new light an honest & retrospective look into the joy, trials, and strength found in life’s relationships, and the benefits of pursuing a personal walk with Jesus Christ. Their latest Project 'Holy Fire' & first release 'Fool Runnin' features John Schlitt and John Lawry (Petra) and Rex Carroll (Whitecross) amidst other classic 80's Christian Hair Band and Metal Rockers!!!

Love John Schlitt. Love Rex Carrol. But this song just doesn't do much for me.

I like the song. Nice riffs, guitar tone, solo and bridge. Chorus is a bit strange and too much auto tune of John thiugh

I agree to some extent. My problem is that I find the the chorus too strange for the song to really work as a whole. Sounds like good ideas and parts put together without an overall idea or concept. And Rex is a great player when it comes to speed and technique. He should learn something from those who have the ability to make every single note count.

But that is just my opinion.

True. The chorus doesn't quite fit well with the rest of the song. Feels too choppy. Also it comes in too early, and the song is too short. It doesn't have enough time to build. The bridge is a nice touch but it also comes in too early. Yeah Rex is a great player, I enjoyed his stuff with Whitecross a lot. It's not uncommon for shredders to play overly fast in situations that don't call for it, although I think he did alright in this song. Anyway, I enjoyed listening too it, but there are some aspects that can definitely be criticized.

And when you know and respect what they have done in the past it is (almost) always interesting to hear them playing at a lager stage in life. I find it most convincing when you can feel how a musician matures over the years (as I am getting older myself). However, some really classic stuff deserves to be repeated in its original form because it is legendary and stod the test of time.

I thought it was very good. Short and sweet. Song and style wise, it reminded me of some of the songs John has done with JSB. The riff is quite nice. And the production and mix are very good. I can't say the same for the other tracks on that page. The other songs are not as tight, and the vocals are a bit rough. And the production is more low budget.

Wasn't John Schlitt and Rex Carroll on a song in the late 80's early 90's? Probably a question for Pieter.
