Petra music video

Post by Vic » Thu Nov 27, 2008 6:05 am

Hi all,

Now that no official studio music videos were released for the below listed albums (as far as I am aware) including Jekyll and Hyde which was a live concert recording, which TWO songs would you have wished to see a music video for each?

e.g. my choice

Petra Praise2 -We need Jesus, Holiest name
God Fixation- If I had to die for someone, God fixation
Double Take- Beat the system, Dance
Revival-Oasis, Amazing Grace
Jekyll and Hyde- All about who you know, Till everything I do

From your list I would choose: The Holiest Name and If I Had To Die For Someone.

But maybe if you would want to have real rock songs, I might want to go for God Fixation and Jekyll & Hyde (even though it's not on your list).

As a guitarist, I believe 'All about who you know' is a song that showcases the wizardry of Petra more than any other song in the album.

No doubt 'Jekyll and Hyde' is a really powerful and great song and I love it, but I just love the guitar work and arrangement in 'All about who you know' better.

BTW a sample of the 'All about who you know" was submitted by Bob to a guitar pedal maker's website who has a product called 'Jekyll and Hyde' which he used in the recording of the album :).

Bob is from a generation of players that were more diverse than players of today. He has that older (do not read that as dated) approach that shines through all of the modern stuff that he has done. That is what I liked about his playing. To men the whole J&H album sounded restricted. Bob was in a box IMO. Maybe everything was the way he wanted it. I don't know. But having seen so many shows and heard so many really good licks and twists on tunes, I think that he could have cut loose a bit more.

He could have been a good chicken picker in another life.

I have this theory that J &H was written for a one guitarist band so all the additional technical stuff that requires an extra guitarist was minimized or avoided all together. Perhaps that's an explanation for missing solos and the "restriction". This would make the album easily playable by one guitarist for a live performance.

yeah, I think that's the only explanation for J&H's lack of solo and lot's of guittars screaming around...

Plus it sounds like most of the hard rock out there except that the only difference is that its Bob who played and that shows a quite lot like the staccato leads in 'all about who you know' and many other fast hooks in the songs. Its what sets him apart from other guitarists.

Also J & H has a lot of complicated melodies, transitions and bridges unique to Petra.
