Word's Newest Compilation???????
Word's Newest Compilation???????
Hey guys,
I have a gut feeling that Word Records (like Star Song Records before them) might release another compilation CD. IF, If they do, I would like to see them release a Rock compilation. Maybe call it "Petra Still Means Rock" (this title sounds better than "Still Means War").
Here is my idea for a track list:
1. I Love The Lord
2. Creed (1990)
3. Be of Good Cheer
4. Underneath The Blood
5. Right Place
6. Sight Unseen
7. I Am On The Rock
8. Dance
9. Beyond Belief (1990)
10. Midnight Oil
11. Praying Man (2000)
12. Destiny (radio edit)
13. King of Kings
14. A Matter of Time
15. Seen and Not Heard
BONUS TRAX (Myrrh Years)
16. God Gave Rock and Roll to You (1977)
17. Walkin' In The Light
18. Get Back To The Bible
19. Come and Join Us
20. God Gave Rock and Roll To You reprise (1977)
what do you think?

No more compilation albums. If people want Petra's old stuff then they should buy the albums and not Word or StarSong cash-in products.
And I, too, don't understand the meaning behind "Petra Still Means War" because as far as I know, Petra never meant "war"!

Petra Still Means War
I Think it's odd they were able to use that name at all since it's an obvious combination of a Star Song album and a Star Song compilation. On the same note naming a Word compliation Petra Still Means Rock would be an even more obvious rip off of that same Star Song compilation.

Two sides
I don't really agree wit that myself. I look at it like this. Star Song Put out Petra Means Rock. If Word would have put out Petra Still Means Rock, then that would have been the continuation of Petra's Greatest Hits. I'm all for labels co-insiding with each other on one artists. They already do things together for the WOW series.
I think if they all were really smart, StarSong and Word would release a 2 or 3 disk set, together. And call it "The Ultimate Petra Experiance" or something like that, and it feature all the hits and special songs covering from 1974-2000. Maybe even make it the "Hall Of Fame Collection." It would be perfect being that 2000 was the year that they were inducted.
And yes I still think there should be another collecton this time based upon the Petheads choosing the songs....like taking a vote or something.

Greatest Hits compilation
I have already made my own "Greatest Hits" compilation discs. Disc 1 is called "Classic Petra: 1974-1985", considered the Greg X. Volz era, and has songs from their debut album all the way to "Captured In Time And Space". Disc 2 is called "Modern Petra: 1986-Present", which is the John Schlitt era, and has songs all the way from "Back To The Street" to "Jekyll And Hyde". It's the best I can do until Word decides to release a compilation set picked by us Petheads.

Greatest Hits
I think it would be cool to have a Greatest Hits CD with songs chosen by the Petheads, but I can't picture that happening any time soon.
The "War And Rememberance" CDs have good songs on them. It's been awhile since that came out though.

Yeah that's good
Yeah
But then we would have to put out the money to Word and Sparrow both, because they both would come after us. I would want this in stores of course, so I'm really wanting to see the Record Companies listening to us on this and desided to start this project.
I'm also even for Inpop leasing the masters from both of the other record companies and putting it out on their label. Sense Inpop has proven that they listen to the fans, for the most part anyway.

Sorry, but I try to stay away from Word music. Their just in it for the money. When anyone says that to you and you think they are judgmental or wrong, just remember what Jesus did to the merchants in the Temple.

Re: Word's Newest Compilation???????
I actaully did a 20CD box set release featuring favorites & greatest hits and the breakdown was something like this 1970's, 1982-1985, 1986-1989, 1990-1994, 1995-1999, 2000-2005, 2005-2010 with bonus tracks and extras featuring radio spots, Xavier, Eband, Head East, John Lawry solo, Orta Solo, Rob Frazier, Tait, Volz solo stuff, Schlitt solo, a bunch of other solo albums, Cover tunes, live tracks, bootlegs and remixes. I made artwork and did the gold and platinum vinyl album CD's then got a ammo box and did the artwork on the outside I called it "War Box: The Petra Anthology" I also included CITAS DVD, Beyond Belief, Unseen Power, Revival, DVD's ( I transfered BB & UP myself), I then made a DVD which included all official music videos and a "Petra Through the Years" Live Bootleg DVD covering as much as I could put together and a "Petra: Beyond the Rock" DVD which I made that took bootleg footage of backstage & studio footage and interviews. Finally I included the More Power to Ya devotional and a CD Rom featuring magazne articles, photos, promotional items and memorabilia. It took me about 2 years to put it together and then I gave it to my brother as a gift for the holidays which he prominantly displays. I had the whole thing shrink wrapped also and put a fake UPC code on the bottom just for fun.
It was a really great way to discover the bands music all over again.
By the way it's July....Where is the Classic Petra US tour dates?

Re: Word's Newest Compilation???????
They should put all the best songs on a 2 disc set and call it something like...."War and Remembrance!"

LOL @ War and Remembrance. It WAS a great set, no doubt about it, but it misses some of the later goodies, obviously. It gets bonus points for putting "Parting Thought" back where it belongs, the end, rather than the middle of the album.

Re: Word's Newest Compilation???????
If it's got some exclusive bonus material (and I know it wont), then I'll buy it. Otherwise, I don't think we need yet another greatest hits compilation.
