I have a beautiful sister-in-law from Guatemala and she loves the U.S.; that's why she came here in the first place. My youngest nephew is going to grow up being bilingual and knowing about two different cultures. There are a lot of good things about that. My youngest brother's wife's grandmother on her mom's side is Mexican; she's lived in the U.S. a very long time and loves it here. People from different cultures do like the U.S., and like I said, we'd have to spend a little time in other countries too to understand them. That does work both ways.

BigD, you may be a Canadian, but you are a great American my friend!!BigD wrote:Bush isn't perfect. I could list a half dozen things off the top of my head that he's done while running the US I don't agree with.
But he can count on one Canadian here who applauds his efforts. He makes mistakes. But he's not the bad guy a lot of people make him out to be.

I share the same frustration as Executioner. He's right - international Christians will never understand it unless they live here. We do NOT idolize anyone. We do respect our President because he is a Godly man. He makes mistakes - all of us who support him know this. I guess you guys must have such horrible leaders in your countries that to actually respect one must seem like idolatry to you.

Bush
Allow me to make this point again. We have religious freedom in the USA. Our legal system is founded on the Christian belief of right and wrong, and morality. Conservatives, in general, want to preserve that freedom and continue to have a society that upholds that morality. The liberals, in general, want to take all that away. Your average, decent democrat doesn't want to do that, but the hard core liberals do! That is one reason Kerry lost. He is aligned with the hard core liberals and too many people said no to that. Clearly, our christian faith must play a role in our voting decisions. If one side wants to take away our religious freedom and move our government away from morality, we cannot put our faith aside and just vote based on other issues such as the economy, security, healthcare, etc. We must also vote with morality in mind. We must stand up for our faith and decide whether one candidate or the other wants to preserve our faith, or get away from it. That is what Christians around the world need to understand. Forget non-christians around the world because I don't know that they can understand. Kerry is a hard core liberal so he is clearly not the right choice. Liberals are trying to stop our Christian practice in this country at every turn, and John Kerry win would be one huge step further down that road. Many liberals were asked why they were not upset that Kerry started mentioning God and morality to try and get votes. They said they were not upset because they thought Kerry really didn't believe it, and once he won the real Kerry would come out. Bush, is clearly not perfect, but he is definitely a God fearing man who makes many decisions based on his faith. The world needs a free nation with religious freedom and morality to be a guide for the rest of the world and fight for freedom in the rest of world, and George Bush is the guy who wants to do that.

My statement was a generalization. I just can't think of any other reason why respect for one's president is tantamount to idolatry to international Christians. Are other leaders around the world really that bad?BigD wrote:Everyone has a right to their opinion-including EPDC. I can respect her viewpoint regardless of whether I agree with it; I would invite both of you to do the same without slandering her country and/or leaders.
We can have a civil discussion. We're all on the same side here, in the end.

Forgive me for not clarifying; I've been posting in these kinds of threads forever (keeping it short here since yall have me covered for defending Bush), it was only the last sentence I had an issue with:
I don't approve of how you said it, even if I knew what you were trying to say.I guess you guys must have such horrible leaders in your countries that to actually respect one must seem like idolatry to you.

All right then, BigD. Why don't you tell us why every time we say something GOOD about our president, we get labeled as "idolators" by the international crowd. Hmmmm?
What else am I supposed to think? Is it that everyone else has it so bad that I can't something good about my president for fear of setting off a verbal lynching? It's crazy, man.
So... if I'm labeled as an idolator, then why should I be Mr. Sensitive with my response? As they say, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Naw... if it had been a picture of Jesus, I would have titled it "The Face of Perfect Love and Forgiveness" or something else indicating the holiness or deity of Christ.
You're not gonna be one of those who reads way too much into positive statements made about the President, are you?
Hey everybody - we just had the most important election of our lifetime here in the United States. Aren't we allowed to celebrate a little bit? Good grief.

I really apologyze for what I said
hope you won`t be mad at me
it just you sounded very ignorant when you said we are were jealous of your president and THAT`S NOT TRUE.
ya know guys, I have been reading some newspapers here and I have founded interesting stuff, it really mae emphasis in each other`s realities and world visions. in one it explains why you voted for Bush (ya know, the way you see things and stuff) and it let me thinking that ANY of us is wrong. We are just living different realities, ya know what I mean?
I`m not wrong and you guys are not wrong either, you are just reacting and and made your decision according to your environment , according to the circumnstances you are living. And I respect that
PLEASE STOP FIGHTING!!!!! though I gotta admit this is the first discussion thread when no one has sent a virus to anyone`s puter hehehe.

I don't think anyone is really mad, Elo; it's hard when you can't see or hear each other. And if this was a fight, it was pretty mild compared to some threads we've had.
It's normal for people from different countries to have different views, and it's normal to get a little frustrated if you feel you're being misunderstood.

ROLY POLY
by Fred Rose
Roly Poly, eatin' corn and taters
Hungry every minute of the day
Roly Poly, gnawin' on a biscuit
Long as he can chew it it's ok
He can eat an apple pie
And never even bat an eye
He likes everything from soup to hay
Roly Poly, daddy's little fatty
Bet he's gonna be a man someday *
Roly Poly, scrambled eggs for breakfast
Bread and jelly 20 times a day
Roly Poly eats a hearty dinner
It takes lots of strength to run and play
Pulls up weeds and does the chores
Runs both ways to all the stores
He works up an appetite that way
Roly Poly, daddy's little fatty
Bet he's gonna be a man someday
(boom...boom...boom....boom...)
Who's in de White House? Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush!
Does it get any better than 4 more years of GWB? Guiliani's coming down the pike in 2008, then maybe Jeb, and it's going to be republican rule till Jesus comes!

...........
Let's not forget
Everytime we've had democrats in office within the last 50 years has brought some form of blow to the christian church.
JFK and Johnson brought us prayer out of the school, now while it happend in the court it should have been faught by the president. During the 90s while Clinton was president it become the law that pastors have no right to preach against homasexuality in church if so they can get arrested.
Tell me if no one knows the result of their actions how will they know if it is right or wrong?
Wrong becomes right when you fight for all the wrong reasons.
