"Petra" & "Come and Join Us" Re-Re-Issued on CD
Re: "Petra" & "Come and Join Us" Re-Re-Issued on CD
Well, they do not have to remaster to reproduce. However, if they are just transferring LP to CD, that would be bad, because LP has as little stereo separation as 20dB(!), a frequency response of 50Hz to 14kHz max vs. 30Hz to 22.05kHz on CD. The EQ of LP is totally whacked compared to CD, all to compensate for the vinyl, etc. I would only buy it if it were remastered....by a pro. Just making it louder and brighter does not make a good master.

For what it's worth, here's a scan of the backsleeve, where it says 'Produced under license'. Nothing about remastering.

I hope they didn't go to the LP when Word already had them on CD, I can just about guess all they did was put some extra EQ on it before they started replication.

Pfffft. Yeah....how about 25dB separation between Left and Right on vinyl and putting that on a CD capable of 110dB of separation. I wonder which RIAA Phono EQ-curve they used. There is one standard curve to be used, but not all filters are the same. The list goes on and on.

Can they do this without permission, and if not who's permission would they need?brent wrote:Pfffft. Until seeing that scan, I don't think I've ever seen a full writers credit list for the first album. No real surprises on there, but good to see. I wonder why they only credit Russ Ballard for GGRARTY when the verses were obviously re-written by someone (Bob?). When KISS re-wrote the verses for their version they credit Ballard-Simmons-Stanley.

Never a big fan of GGRARTY in any form and why Petra would ever give that song so much air time its beyond me.
