Too Many Live Videos

Post by Michael » Wed Jun 15, 2005 7:46 am

OK, so we were watching Michael W. Smith's new live DVD, and I got to thinking about John and Bob's reluctance to do another live video/album. Hel-LOOOOO, Michael W. Smith ahs done what, two dozen concert videos/albums? The Live Set/The Big Picture, then I know he taped some live videos on like the Go West Young Man tour, and I don't know what all in between but both of those Worship albums were recorded live and released both on CD and DVD, and now this one... what's up with Petra? It can be done.

Yes, I do know Michael is CCM's Darling right now and he could poot on tape and people would buy it, but STILL. ;)

Marketing 101: If you make it a big deal (even if it isn't), people will buy it.

Look at any of your manufactured 'boy bands,' or the teeny-bopper girl trend (such as Brittney Spears in her early years).

Nothing spectacular, music-wise, but if they're marketed properly and have a lot of money backing them - they will sell.

Petra HAS great music, a good reputation - just not the marketing and money to back them any more.

They do have a very untapped resource - the Petheads - that could be used to a much greater degree if a concise marketing plan were in place. Look at all the push everyone here did when Revival came out - the publicity that the Petheads generated was wonderful. Combine that with proper marketing and financial backing - you could have a GREAT farewell tour, complete with a live DVD/CD.

This is talking strictly from a 'worldly' viewpoint. Now add the power of God to the mix - and just imagine what could be done.

That is a good idea...The question is how much cooperation would the Petheads get from the powers that be?

Ouch, did I just say that?

You forgot Smitty's "Change Your World Live" video. I wish they would put that on DVD.

Sorry to dig up an old post. I didn't think I was going crazy cause I thought I heard a live version of "For You" (Go West Young Man) on the radio at some point in my life.

Did MWS ever makes the stuff from the "Go West Young Man" tour available?
