Prayer request
Fellow Petra fans, I want to ask for your prayers as I am trying to get back to God after falling away. In the past year I have been getting into alot of trouble with Alcohol, Women & bad mates. Even though I have been listening to Petra I have been ignoring the message in the songs. I have started going back to church the past few weeks which was a big step. Some of you know that my marriage ended last year and it has been a huge thing to over come. I also have a friend call Natalie who is coming back to God too and needs prayer. If you could put us in your prayers please. God bless Daniel

Divorce is tough.... and sometimes the heartache of it all makes you go "looking for love in all the wrong places" instead of looking to the Lord.
You realize this, which is an indication that the Holy Spirit has been talking to you - and you're listening. This is good!
Will pray for you.... keep walking on that RIGHT path, Daniel. Jesus will walk with you.

Daniel,
You have never walked too far away from the Lord that He couldn't draw you back. He has a plan for you and a calling on your life. All He wants is your heart, all of it. He is always just to forgive even though we make horrible decisions and mistakes in our lives.
You are taking the right steps, now keep going forward and press on towards the goal.
Dearest Heavenly Father,
Thank You so much for You ever present help, You grace and Your longsuffering patience with us. How we so not deserve Your love, yet, You are so amazing that You desire, hunger and yearn for us to love You, walk with You and spend time with You. You forgive us when we go wrong and even when we blatently disobey You.......You still draw us. Just like with the Prodical Son story in Your Word. I love it.....the son wanted something and so he got it and then he wasted a treasure and then found out that things weren't all that much fun and all he yearned for was to be back with the Father. Oh, and how the DAD ever responded, girded up his tunic and ran to meet the son when he saw him in the distance! He kept looking for him........just like You've looked for Daniel when he made the wrong choices in his life. But, he knew it was wrong and he yearns for You, Lord and so You run to him and embrace him and help him to walk again as Your son.
Lord I pray that You would pour out Your Holy Spirit upon Him in a mighty way, that He would be so consumed by the fire of Your Holy Spirit that Daniel would become a man through whom You will speak to thousands, to help them through their struggles and put them back on the right path.
Lord, fill him also with a hunger for more of You, for deeper understanding of Your Word and a desire to seek Your face every day, before he starts his day, as he works, as he plays and as he sleeps. Lord give him dreams and visions as You speak healing to his heart.
I pray for restauration of relationships with the people in his life who got hurt through the bad decisions made. Lord, You are in the business of restauration and healing and I pray for healing of hurting hearts and mending of brokenness and seamlessly putting back together the shattered pieces.
Lord I often think about how You can take something that was once beautiful, but got shattered, yet You pick up the pieces and put them together and fit them in the right places to make something so beautiful that it sparkles when the sun catches all the little pieces. May Daniel see Your reflection and may Your reflection be seen in Him.
I also pray for Natalie. You know what has happened and taken place in her life, her heart. You also know her and know the plans that You have for her. Plans to give her a hope and a future in You. I pray that You draw her unto You with a strong calling and that You would create within her a heart of flesh, replacing the heart of stone and infill that heart with the power of Your Holy Spirit, so that she will know, understand and realize the depth, width and breadth of Your love and that her roots will go deep into the soil of Your marvelous love, that she may bear fruit, godly fruit that You will be well pleased with.
I pray for protection over her heart, mind and soul in the Name of Jesus. I pray for protetion over Daniel's heart, mind and soul in the mighty Name of Jesus, so that the enemy who wants to draw them back and have them lose heart cannot succeed. They will no longer turn back to their past, but walk in confidence in You and they will realize that they are BLESSED and that Your Goodness and Mercy will FOLLOW them all the days of their lives.
In Jesus Holy and Precious Name I humbly pray over these your two children. AMEN

I had a 10 foot long comment to this and it's gone. Get behind me devils of firefox. I will try again.
I know this is a late entry to the discussion. However, while not in the same situation, I can relate. I began studying depravity and confession a while ago and have returned to the theme many times and for good reason...the puritans being particularly edifying. Those guys knew this stuff inside out and they continually pointed us in one direction for remedy.
To The Cross. The Gospel.
Particularly moving to me (another way of saying it made me bawl) was this bit of Stephen Charnock (and the blog in that link has much good material on it). Especially;
The beauty of that passage is that it's the gospel all over again-the Gospel for the saved! Even as we still wage the battle we all must fight against the flesh, our failures can not compare to Christ's perfection.
At the cross he gave, and continues to give, his righteousness for our unrighteousness, his obedience for our disobedience. In this is the power to save, over and over again and once for all. We are reckoned righteous because of Christ, what he has done, not what we do or fail to do. Comfort indeed!!
I am finding no piece of advice as profound as this (or as useful for that matter):
Preach the Gospel to yourself every day.
Yes you still need it. But you probably know that already. I can honestly say I know of nothing that makes makes sin less attractive than pondering the gospel-nothing that makes it more resistable than the grace of the cross. Even in failure, we have our advocate.
Usually this kind of thing doesn't come out quite the way I intend, still I hope it is a little helpful. I love the old dead guys...they still speak.

AndThe Devil accuses us when we fall,
but he has not so much on his side as we have.
All his strength lies in our sinful acts,
but the strength of our Advocate lies in His own infinite merit.
Satan has no merit of his own to enter as plea for vengeance.
When he pleads against us with our sins,
Christ pleads for us by His sufferings,
and if our adversary never ceases to accuse us,
our Advocate never ceases to defend us.
as to our corruptions,
He is in Heaven to make up all breaches.
His blood has the same design in His plea,
that it had in the sacrifice,
which was to purify us (Titus 2:4).
Upon every occasion He steps in
to plead with the holiness of God
and pacify the justice of God
for our greater as well as lighter crimes.

Well spoken (quoted?).
Like charl, I can't relate exactly (though perhaps more exactly than she), and one of the best moments of my struggle was Romans 8.17:
He, too, suffered from sin. He knows the loss of fellowship, and more keenly than we. His suffering ensured that he is never separated from us. He is always with us, no matter where we are or how far we stray.
Like charl, I can't relate exactly (though perhaps more exactly than she), and one of the best moments of my struggle was Romans 8.17:
As I lay awake in bed one night, useless recriminations gave way to the understanding that my suffering with Christ also includes my suffering from sin: "Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God, through Jesus Christ our Lord."And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
He, too, suffered from sin. He knows the loss of fellowship, and more keenly than we. His suffering ensured that he is never separated from us. He is always with us, no matter where we are or how far we stray.
