Robot guitar tuner
Re: Robot guitar tuner
Antares Autotune has been implemented into electric guitars, like Peavey, Taylor and a couple of others. Their function allows for alternate tunings without physically touching the strings.
There have been several automated tuner systems, driven by servo motors and such. One of the first was invented by a NASA engineer. It was too involved and cumbersome. Gibson and others integrated a streamlined version of the same type of thing and paid the developer to disappear. That system did not work out well, and the guitars were too expensive. Gibsons are already too expensive for what they are.
When I was touring with Junior Brown, he was approached by another mad scientist guy, who had come up with a way to put auto tuners on Juniors "Guit-Steel". I never got to see the pro to-type, but I did see the next two guit-steels, one of which only was played a couple of times because of the tone. It sure looked cool though.
