Greg X Volz

Post by Mitch » Sun Oct 24, 2004 9:39 pm

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone had any Greg X Volz songs? I've been looking to download a few but have been unable to find them. I used to own most of his tapes, but like alot of other things, have lost them. If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it!

Are you talking about legally purchasing music? You can buy everything that Greg has ever done solo at www.gregxvolz.com. He has a nice site, has sample MP3's from all of the albums.

Why are you assuming he downloaded them illegally? I can't find any songs anywhere, but maybe he did.

Thanks for the info, guys. Actually, I was looking to download them from the 'net. Like I said, I used to own the tapes, lost'em, and was looking for a few songs. Didn't know Greg had a site tho.

Thanks again,

Mitch

I didn't assume. I was clarifying that he meant where he could purchase, since he had before and had lost them. Plus, I don't think that GXV has anything on cassette anymore, unless it is really old new stock. I so know where he can get illegal copies. I like GXV and don't think that taking his work for free is a Christian act.

I have all his work. But, just as a precaution, the music after "No Room In The Middle" is a little, somewhat...hmmm...Can't explain it. I was not engineered and produced too well, and sounds a little old fashioned. I have it in my collection, but don't really listen to them. His first 4 solo albums are awesome though.

Hi Daffy.

I can't think what CD it's on, but Servants and Wittnesses is one of my favorite songs. Pretty much like everything on 'The Exodus' as well.

Yeah, I share your feelings. But, when you turn from being a commercial product (Petra) to being a solo artist commercial product, and then go into ministry, that happens. The budget is miniscule compared to the others, which were not that large compared to similar secular productions.

I talked with JDB one time about this. He worked with Greg for a bit after Petra. Greg does the best that he can do with what he's given. Though I am a picky engineer myself, I hardly think that a good song is no longer a good song because of the production. And, a good message is a good message regardless of the messenger.

Greg's first four albums are awesome... I've had him here in concert a number of times, and even have video of his shows...

He still had it, even after all those years.

I don't know about NOW, but when he was here in 1994-96, he did a great job, musically.

Would it be too much to ask for a copy of this video. If it is too much I'll understand. You are awfully buzy.

I agree and disagree. "The Exodus" came after "No Room In The Middle" and is his best album ever in my opinion. That's where I disagree with you unless you misspoke, since you do say his first FOUR are great and "The Exodus" is his fourth.

Otherwise, I agree that his first 4 were great ("Come Out Fighting" was a little weaker than the others). Nothing else is quite up to par until 2001s "The Next Sphere" which has some good songs, but also has some average songs and on the whole is not produced and mixed as well as it could have been.

His new CD, "No Greater Love" is growing on me quickly though. Very bluesy and I have grown to love the blues-rock sound over the years.

His venue was the only place I had ever seen it. In fact, I haven't even seen any mention of it on his official site (although I tend to miss obvious things sometimes).

In any case, you can find scans of the CD cover on my family website (not Petra-related), the Guthrie Home. Go into the Entertainment Room when you get there.
