SHORTER SHOWS?

Post by Corval » Thu Nov 04, 2004 2:41 pm

Hey

People here in Brazil have complained about tha shows were quickly, but when I saw the GUIDE TO PETRA recents reviews... I got a surprise..all of them too small...

Is it because this shows were festivals?

Well, I know John and Bob are not so young..I can imagine it is hard to do a long show.

I am very happy cause here we have a show with Amazing Grace, all about who you know, right place, I waited/Ancient of days, Sight Unseen/It is finished/This means war, the noise we make, J&H, perfect world, test of time, life as we know it, lord I lif your name on high, he came, he saw and he comquered...

well, I hope they continue blessings us!

ShoutFest is a festival, yet I don't know whether or not their shows are getting shorter overall...I have never seen a Petra show, the closest I came was in VA where I found out afterwards they had played 10 mins away from my house. :( I live in Houston now, and the closest they come is Sherman, like 6 hrs away.

Thank you Eriol

Probably the shows were shorter cause are festivals.

Here in Brazil shows were greater and long.

But I confess I miss keys..and the slowly songs.
I love hard songs but I think they could do a medley with some classics.
However it is my humble opinion

Thank you very much for help me, Eriol

There are no cold hard rules for time on stage. It is negotiated. If the promotors can't afford to pay for a full show, or they do not have the time for it, then they negotiate for less time.

Sometimes there are unforseen circumstances that limit a bands time on stage. So don't get mad at Petra. They probably did what they were paid to do.

When I was working for a country artist, we would fly across country to go play 30-minute gigs at festivals. We then opened for Dave Mathews band (45 minutes of playing for $10k). I love those gigs. I do the least amount of work and make the same pay as headlining.

The festival shows do have time limits, and yes Shoutfest is a festival. It is a one day event similar to World Pulse Fest. The Petra shows at Creation were limited to about 45 to 50 minutes. They had a short set planned for Creation East and threw in some bonus material because they finished the planned set early. They have been playing some Steve Wingfield Crusades and the one we were at, they played for the better part of two hours. So, I don't think age is a factor. I would say they did enough of their praise and worship material to just about fill a whole festival set. Plus they did some the new stuff from J&H, old stuff, newer stuff, and medleys It was great!

I've heard/seen both the long and the short of it.

I saw Petra play a 45-minute set on the ice before an Indianapolis Ice hockey game in March 2002.

In July of the same year, they played a set that was more than 2 1/2 hours long at the fairgrounds in South Bend Indiana.

At the World Pulse Festival this August, they played about an hour (at 11am!), and the guys had to catch a flight not too long after their set.

And your guess is as good as mine at how long that Reunion concert in Angola, Indiana was in June! The current band played 2 sets and the original band played 6 or 7 songs...

Every Petra show I have been to has been unique, and regardless of length, was a blessing!

Jen

PS We were blessed to hear John sing the National Anthem at said hockey game...

I never understood the point of the Sight Unseen / It Is Finished / This Means War medley.

It may not need a point. It rocks your face off and that's a good thing.
