Post by johntheumfreak » Wed Dec 22, 2004 9:36 pm

Why exactly did Greg x Volz leave the band? Can anybody answer my question? :?

I think he wanted to spend more time with his family...I've always assumed he left because it was time for him to move on. :) That was a long time ago.

All of that is politically correct PR.

The real reason is some of that and yet none of that. It isn't an important issue anymore. It happened, it had to happen, and it was best since Petra is still in existance to today. Enough said.

2 things

Post by executioner » Thu Dec 23, 2004 11:44 am

The only 2 things I ever heard was that it was a mutual agreement for Bob and Greg to part ways, and Bob did not renew his contract. Bob has had final say so in all business matters since the late 70's.

This is all old news anyway; it happened too long ago to really be relevant now. How about if we just say he left when it was time for him to move on and leave it at that?

The may have been contracts involved, but that was not the reason for him leaving.

While I am most certianly not an insider per se, I have aquired info the same way anyone can via the internet and word searches, then had it confirmed by other christian music producers, engineers, etc (whose names I will not drop here). You can't keep news like that hushed for long. Of course having Louie come here to play drums allowed for down-time conversation during back-ups, runs to the drum shop, etc.

It doesn't matter. He left. He did have family issues. It was a shocker. People thought the band was finished, as they were at the pinnacle of their success then. John came along in the nick of time. The rest is history.

Even as late as last year, I thought that I had to know all that there is to know about people and their history. Just like when I read the bible, I think, "You moron! You are after God's own heart and you screwed up like that"? It is easier to be a recliner coach than to be in their game.

I am here to tell you that the less you know, the more that you like them, or hold them in high esteem. The more you know, the less fandom you will have. We are all on this spinning mud ball together, born into a sin nature, making doo doo. No matter who you are, or what you do, your doo doo still stinks. I have spent the last year working in an industry that caters to liars, drug adicts, abusors, convicted felons, etc. Through this work, I am inspired. Because now I realize more than ever the dismal state of man, and the need for help.

That sounds very much along the lines of what I've tried to say in a number of my posts...Is it possible that at least part of the problem in CCM are fans who are shocked at the idea they're not above what the rest of us have to deal with? Sure, there's a place to speak up when stuff is going on that isn't right, and there's a place for accountability, but for the most part, the public is more interested in speculating than in praying, and they probably go stir crazy trying to deal with that sort of thing. Fans tend to put these people on a pedestal they don't belong on and are shocked when they come crashing off of that pedestal. They're as human, sinful and screwed up as anyone else, and you shouldn't assume what happens to these folks could never happen to you, that's a dangerous place to be.

Fine words of wisdom, Shell.

Everybody has problems in their life and skeletons in their closet, and most often it's best not to air it all or speculate about it in a public forum.

shell, sue, brent, i can't agree with you more

Everybody knows i'm crazy but does it get out to the rest of the world? i don't know........take me for instance, i'm an idiot and yet I still live under a bright sky....but that's only when the sun is out. there are times during the day when its dark, and i find it best to close my eyes and wait for at least 8 or 9 hours and then when i open my eyes the sky is bright again, unless of course we get rain but i can still see through the windows of my car......

I hope this helps someone.

Hey man, ever been to Buck Owen's place there in Bakerfield? When I was on the road with a country guy we would come there often. Good music scene there.

You should write some lyrics for a Doors tribute band. LOL
