Hammer meet nail. CCM has been rotten with sin from day one. We, as Christians, just don't want to see it that way.brent wrote:This is nothing. You know she opened up for Petra on 2 of their tours PP2 and DoubleTake. The DT tour was not called that but I'm don't remember the name of the tour. I believe she was good friends with Pete Orta; he played on a few songs on the PP2 tour.

Re: Jennifer Knapp
It isn't the fact that she is sinning that I was questioning. We all do, and homosexuality isn't a bigger sin in God's eyes than anything else. My point was, how can she blatantly ignore what the Bible is so clear about if she considers herself a Christian? She should be repenting and turning from her sin if she truly considers herself a follower of Jesus, not going "oh, I can live a sinful lifestyle and it doesn't matter".

She has the same attitude that a lot of sinners have and that is the classic "who are you to tell me how to live my life". Because very few churches preach right and wrong a lot of people have that same attitude. It is funny how sin takes over the thought process.

While I believe that homosexuality is a sin, the Bible isn't as clear on the matter as people think, especially when you go back to the original texts and aren't dealing with English translations.Shell wrote:My point was, how can she blatantly ignore what the Bible is so clear about if she considers herself a Christian?

From the article:
In other words, it's not ME. It's how OTHERS perceive me that causes all the trouble.
Sad.
Sounds like that ever famous passing the buck scenario: "Lord - it's the woman you gave me - she gave me the fruit and I ate it." Not my fault.....
So it's difficult for me to say that I've struggled within myself, because I haven't. I've struggled with other people. I've struggled with what that means in my own faith. I have struggled with how that perception of me will affect the way I feel about myself.

Re: Jennifer Knapp
I was reading some stuff awhile ago along this line of thinking. The stuff I read referenced some Jewish scholars who posed that early Jewish practice regarding the so called clobber verses in the O.T. suggested they had a different or selective interpretation of those scriptures. Same seks male relationships were prohibited in certain instances, while they looked the other way in other cases, and same seks female relationships were not really addressed in scripture or society. That's not to say the interpretation of early Jews was accurate, or that they fully understood God's intent. But, it made me think. We have looked to early practice and interpretation regarding the New Testament and the early church. That has certainly been used to inform modern views.separateunion wrote:While I believe that homosexuality is a sin, the Bible isn't as clear on the matter as people think, especially when you go back to the original texts and aren't dealing with English translations.Shell wrote:My point was, how can she blatantly ignore what the Bible is so clear about if she considers herself a Christian?

I think it is. It is grouped with gettin jiggy wit duh beasts....It is a super perversion with far reaching implications beyond lying or stealing. Not all sin is equal in judgment, reaped consequences, etc. I used to say the same thing. But the more I read about people not having the same hell and the same heaven, the more I see the importance of certain sins being higher on God's naughty list than others.Shell wrote:It isn't the fact that she is sinning that I was questioning. Re: Jennifer Knapp
Okay, maybe I should clarify there is no sin God won't forgive, except denying the Holy Spirit. I do get what you're saying, but the key to sin, any sin, is rebellion against God, and part of the Christian life is repenting and turning from sin. Any sin is going to have consequences, even if the consequences vary in length and severity. Lying, stealing and cheating can cause some nasty, long lasting repercussions for a lot of people. It is not cool to say, "oh, I can do what I want; God doesn't care, He'll forgive me." That is totally missing the point of grace.

Re: Jennifer Knapp
The bible is very clear on homosexuality:
There is to be no sex apart from marraige.
Marraige is between a husband and a wife.
Homosexuality is clumped with beastiality as something that makes God sick and he says DO NOT DO IT.

Oh, I'm not disputing that at all. I know that Bible is clear about it. I'm just saying grace isn't license, or something to take for granted.

Re: Jennifer Knapp
Yet, if you'd actually done any research on the topic, you'd know that it isn't. From what I've studied, I believe that the Bible says homosexuality is sin. However, the Greek and Hebrew texts are not as clear as most assume.brent wrote:The bible is very clear on homosexuality.

Re: Jennifer Knapp
Are you trying to say something is lost in the translation from Hebrew and Greek to English Jason? Seems to me it's pretty clear too. What sources have you used for your research, I'm kind of curious to check it out myself. My minor was in linguistics, so I'm interested in translations from one language to another and that sort of stuff. I haven't studied Hebrew and Greek extensively but I had some interesting classes in how English developed and the different influences other languages have had on it. (The technical stuff was kind of a pain, but the history behind where our words came from was interesting).
