Actually, Mormons and JWs use a counterfeit scripture. They edited and reprinted the KJV to make it say what they wanted it to say. But, it IS a legit response. The devil wrested scripture. The Pharasees wrested scripture. Jim Jones wrested scripture. The Muslims wrest scripture. Denominations wrest scripture. Everyone does it knowingly or unknowingly to some extent.
Read the scriptures and the context of the verses from which the song was lifted: 1 Timothy 4:1, 2 Thessalonians 2:11, 2 Timothy 4:3-4
The implication is deceiving evil spirits caused the people to wander, being seduced by false doctrines and the people failed to study for themselves and return to the Truth. We have no qualifiers of the people per se other than they are not true believers. We only see that people follow false doctrines and are led astray. II Thes 2 tells us that people WILL NOT RECEIVE the truth (Sorry Dale Thompson, your theory is shot with one verse) and that GOD SENT THEM A DELUSION that they would believe a lie. Bob is not writing about people losing their salvation. Although there are people that have their salvation revoked. Read Revelation. Anyone that changes the Word has his salvation revoked.

Well yes, but not all of the scripture is changed. Some of the verses they use are the same as what we use. Still, I'd wager that on the whole, JWs and Mormons know their scriptures better than Christians know theirs, which is kind of sad.brent wrote:Actually, Mormons and JWs use a counterfeit scripture. I've been listening to Christian music off and on for over 25 years. Band that are similar to Petra's mid 80's/early 90's sound include: Degarmo & Key, Mylon & Broken Heart, Age of Faith, Shout, Michael Sweet's solo stuff, Whiteheart, John Schlitt's and Greg X Volz' first solo discs (Duh, you might say!), Steve Camp, and Morgan Cryer.
If you are a fan of the heavier stuff (like Jekyll & Hyde), I would suggest Stryper, Holy Soldier, X-Sinner, Bloodgood, Tamplin, or Guardian (especially the first two discs).
Finally, if you like the praise and worship stuff, I'd go with Sonic Flood, Mercy Me, or Casting Crowns.
Michael W. Smith's albums "The Big Picture," "i2eye," "Go West Young Man," and "Change Your World" are also good ones.
