Ah. This is silly. It could happen to anyone, and it has.

There is nothing safe and certain about drilling, transporting, refining, etc period.

Yes it's bad. Yes it will hurt the eco system and the economy (deep down this is what people are really bent out of shape about). But you know what? There will be wars and catastrophes so bad that most of the sea life will die and waters be bloody. There is nothing man can do to stop this or anything else from happening.

My friend is a news director for a major network. He says that the government reps ON THE RIG WERE DOING METH AND WATCHING bunnies BEFORE ALL OF THIS HAPPENED. We don't hear about that. If you want to boycott something, boycott our failed government.

Ah yes, blame the government. It's always the easy way out. Never hold the oil industry or companies to the fire. They're never at fault.

You didn't read the spirit of my post. The inspectors there were not paying attention. Had they not been in someone's pocket and doing their jobs, maybe this would not have happened. Combine that with the fact that may of our politicians have ties to oil companies, are supported by oil companies, etc. Obama himself received campaign contributions from BP. It all stinks to high heaven.

Pffft. Right. Both Republicans and Democrats are someone's puppet, owe someone a favor, have an agenda and special interests, etc. The only difference is the blab coming out of their mouth.

There was a survey on NPR Saturday about dems and reps and pre-marriage relations...nookie. Large percentages of both consider it to be MORAL. I wonder what else both consider to be moral?

Here's a scenario that could play out in the near future.

Some reports are saying this leak won't be stopped until August. So sometime soon, gas prices will skyrocket...probably around July 1st (just in time for the 4th of July holiday weekend). Gas prices could go as high as $4.00 a gallon...or more.

They are predicting a very active hurricane season.

Now, combine that with hundreds of thousands of people nationwide losing their unemployment benefits on July 1st, and you have all the ingredients for a summer of discontent.

I pray that I am wrong.

BP is not the only source of oil. Our domestic off shore drilling is a fraction of what we use. If prices go up, they should only be raised at BP stations on BP products. THAT would be a cool system, but that is not reality.

We still have some of the cheapest fuel in the world, even at $4 a gallon. While I am not happay about it, and it will hit our economy hard, it will be better than paying 8 or 20 like some countries pay.

Perhaps we should stop using medicine and health care, since man's death is inevitable anyways.

I think a lot of people actually care about the eco-system, and it's not just about the economy.

Unless you're psychic, I disagree with your belief that most sea life will die. It's neither an "end times" scenario nor what God wants for the earth.

Really? Study the Trumpets. 1/3 die from boiling. Study the Bowls. The second Bowl kills ALL sea life. That IS what God wants and it is what God will get.

Well, I have three daughters with lots of friends. So, I think they beat you to trashin' the house. It is pretty darn clean right now though. IF you want to come now, you will have more fun with it.

You missed the spirit of it. I am not saying, let's kill it since it will be killed in the end. I am saying that accidents happen and there is no way that man can prevent all accidents and there is no way that man can completely preserve nature. I believe we are to subdue the earth. We will have to answer for what we do with God's property. Mankind is not the enemy of the earth. The earth was made for us, not the other way around.

BP didn't do this on purpose. They will not make any money by losing all of that oil, paying for the clean up and paying restitution for monetary damages. If anything, they will lose the leadership they were happy with and their profits will be in the toilet. Come on. The earth burped and they could not handle it for whatever reason.

The reason I brought up the government is that they are the ones that make the oil companies drill so far off shore, causing them to drill so dangerously deep, and then provide lax supervision and regulation. The government is not even granting permits to REPAIR the rigs. So, DUH! The inspectors on the operating rigs are not doing their part. If the regulators are not doing their part, then the companies will not, because they are in it to make a profit for the stock holders. Since this is how things go, drilling in shallow water would be the safer approach.

Today I heard people in the media bashing not just BP, but all oil. All oil was demonized. All oil drilling was demonized. All this while they talk on their cell phones, walk on plastic high heels, drink out of paper coffee cups (which have an oil based coating), eat Hersheys Chocolate (you got it, it has oil in it), etc, etc. We cannot get off of it. We need to suck it up and take the risks, or be willing to live with nothing, because oil is in most everything that we use today.

Even if we could stop using oil, which we could never and will never do, there will still be accidents and natural disasters trashing the environment. We could stop using matches and anything flammable and still have fires. We could stop using all emissions and would still have problems with air quality from natural activities. Heck, in Missouri, there was a time in St Louis that people were dropping dead left and right from sulfur farts coming from the earth.

By and large, man has had little to do with the world's worst ecological tragedies. Earthquakes, famines, floods, smallpox, volcanoes, tsunamis, tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes, etc have killed more people than anything man has ever done. These were by God's hand, not mans. Yes, we have caused some messes, but nothing comparable with nature itself.
