Let's not forget Petra's second song aimed at these people: Witch Hunt. The sound is dated, but I love the message. There's backmasking all through it, but then during the fade they play them all forward and they're clips from The Wizard of Oz. Brilliant!

Witch Hunt is one of those songs that you will say: "Is that song a Petra song?"... YES... The best part of the song?: The message. It's powerful and right to the point... I love Witch Hunt... My two kids too... 8)

I remember when I was a kid going to church and having my children's church leader preach to us about evil rock music. They told me if I kept listening to Petra I would end up in hell. They would play music backwards and tell us what we were hearing. They were so hog wild about back masking that they even cited the theme music to Mr Ed. They said that "A horse is a horse of course of course" was "Satan is the source, Satan is the source" backwards.

I'm so glad I got away from that church. I don't think they had any idea how ridiculous they sounded.

I feel your pain brotha'. That is what I grew up in as well. Meanwhile the pastors would listen to the rebellious music of their youth, stating that it was clean and wholesome. Well, it wasn't to their parents and grandparents who hated it.

There is an episode of Andy Griffith that is great. The school students wanted to do a senior play, with dancing from their day. The principal pooped on that idea and exclaimed "his dancing from his day being better, cleaner, respectful." So the kids, to prove a point, recreated constumes and dancing from the 20's, the principal's "day" and showed him just how racey it was compared to their day in the 60s, where people just looked like dorks and danced like spazzes (sp). The principal conceided.

Preachers either bag on what they do not prefer personally, or the demons they are fighting. Case in point, Jimmy Swaggert bagged on bunnies and rock. What did he get busted with? bunnies, hookers, etc. His music was the rock music of his day. He played like his cousin Jerry Lee Lewis. In fact, back in the day, friends and family said Jimmy was better and had a chance to make it big. Backward masking is the "anti-nigger" preaching of our day. Oh yeah, these same preachers would have been the ones to say black people are of the devil. They are legalistic, narrow minded, biggoted, dumb-asses.

The other thing I would like to point out before I get off of the soap box is, it takes more evil to sit and spinb records backwards, and think up some satanic thought, than it does to listen to the music and not know any of that is there. Unless the backward speech is solo'd, like it is on the Petra disc, and intentional for marketing, gimmickry, etc, there is no reason to look for it, because it is not something we would hear listen to the music played forward. It has scientifically been debunked time and time again.
